Search by Tags

This page lets you filter my database of all of the new fiction and audio drama podcasts by granular tags to a precise niche. This is very much a work in progress, with tagging of shows always improving. If you want to help, submit your show or update your tagging.

Because tagging is incomplete, you may wish to leave some options empty with initial searches, and then get more specific.

You can also search by Title.

Genre tags - these are additive, so if you pick "Horror" and "Comedy", you should only get horror comedies, rather than just horror. You don't need to select a value for all of them, and some shows don't have three tags, so feel free to start broad and get more narrow.

The Serpent Under My Skin
The Serpent Under My Skin is an exploration into an allegorical retelling of what it is like to be raised trans and conservative alt right. If you like the major motion picture The Green Knight and Arthurian legend, this might be for you. It's a hair-raising tale with small, quiet moments of gender exploration and theological discussion. The themes are religious trauma and heartbreak, the complicated relationships with our parents, and who gets to decide who lives and dies and what that means. A central theme runs through the story of brainwashing children to do our bidding instead of viewing them as complete and whole human beings. If you like stories of gender awakening, striking back against the people that have harmed you, pain and suffering and the catharsis that comes from becoming a more complete human being, even if it means leaving behind everyone and everything you've ever known, this story may be the one for you.It centers on Paladin, a lone child plucked from our world and raised in another to become a murderer of drifters, people that travel from other worlds. It follows their loss of faith and subsequent mental breakdown in a tender, raw performance that dips into both feminine and trans rage.

One pack of five garou are thrust into this war, aimed at the enemy with promises of glory ringing in their ears. An actual-play podcast where friends from across Wyoming roll their dice through an epic, collaborative tale. Our story takes place where sorcery and steampunk collide: the world of Verrilan, created by author (and our GM), Aaron Volner. Once, the world of Verrilan was lush, with beautiful seas and vast continents peopled with colorful civilizations…And then, came the Fog. No one knew what it was. No one knew where it came from. But in less than a decade it covered the land, killing most it encountered and driving the rest to bloodthirsty madness. Civilization was forced to flee to the Floating Islands, situated high above, and pray to their gods that it would be enough to deliver them. 10,000 years have passed. The Fog still roils below, ever present as it blots out the land and the seas, its threat never truly forgotten. Yet civilization carries on in the Floating Islands with the help of the Sky Ships, steam powered marvels that much resemble the great seafaring vessels of old.

Under the Library
Under the Library is a weekly recorded RPG/TTRPG game utilizing the Call of Cthulhu rule set. It is set on a fictitious earth (at least until the aliens arrive) where cosmic horror is steeped in mystery and slathered with self-deprecating humor. Our current campaign is Blood on the Rocks, an original weird west sandbox created by our Keeper and mispronouncer Michael Frank. Each week, Michael leads his friends (a motley crew of opera singers, DMs, puppet makers and serial killers) as they brave the mysteries and try not to die. The investigators of Bloodstone are Florence Potter, bookstore owner (Emily Mills-Woodruff), Beau Clermont, traveler and hunter (Chris Hogan), Quentin Berry, veteran and medic (Wayne Holt), Jaker VonHusher, coffin maker (Scott Stamper), Harold Rumsford, tinkerer/inventor (Arthur Rothfuss III), and Philip Awn Donner, mountainman (Rick Duthersford). The members of Under The Library believe heartily in the narrative, improv and character building of roleplaying. Sometimes we stick our heads in front of trains because thats what our character would do, and when we look under the bed even the Keeper may not be sure what we’ll find. We believe we’re crafting a story, which creates flawed characters, suspenseful events, and fulfilling revelations.

Werewolf the Podcast: A Serial (Killer) Drama
A weekly werewolf blood-soaked series.  We hear a werewolf's horror-filled true story. Starring Wil and Fen, the fun-loving Calvin and Hobbes-like duo slowly destroying culture with laughs. WARNING: Not for the faint of heart or the fragile of emotion. This werewolf is an evil psychotic murdering killer who is not a guilt-torn, suffering individual. No, he loves being a monster and has nothing to do with sparkly vampires. The content is a brain-crushing, soul-wrenching, body-squirming, emotionally wrecking depiction of what an amoral, primal, soul-less, unethical, unprincipled, unscrupulous, savage being does when it lives amongst humanity. I am warning you here. Anyone capable of enjoying this story is already teetering pretty close to the edge of the dark abyss.

Sophia
At age 7, Sophia was struck down with a life-threatening disease. Faced with a choice between an unending life in the body of a child and her otherwise certain death, Sophia's parents had her turned into a vampire. Now, after 10 years of Christian home-schooling and near-total isolation, Sophia secretly plans on moving out the very night she turns 18. All her research, her online classes, and her natural curiosity have prepared Sophia mentally for the world she's about to dive head-first into, but no amount of research could prepare her heart for falling in love with Joshua, the first young man she sees after donating her corneas the next day. Her faith in God and her desire to heal the sick gives Sophia the strength to persevere through the pain of donation after donation, and her vampirism gives her the ability to grow her organs back again and again, but Sophia finds herself unequipped to face her suddenly-awakened lusts of the flesh and the ache in her heart for a deep, reciprocated love. After a shocking and painful first date with Joshua, it doesn't take Sophia long to learn just how difficult the search for love can be, especially for a teenage vampire with a child's body and a strong desire to avoid falling into sin.

Emily
Before she met Nicholas, all Emily cared about was shopping, and she believed her teachers when they told her the vampires had made the world a better place. After falling in love at first sight, Emily's mind was opened to the harsh realities brought about by the worldwide alliances between vampires and humanity at every level of society. Nicholas was leading the charge in the fight against injustice, cruelty, slavery, and tyranny by the elder vampires, and Emily found herself suddenly caught up in a movement that stood for the rights of both humanity and a new generation of vampires who'd been tricked into giving up their natural rights. Doing everything she can for the cause comes second only to following her heart as Emily tries to win the affections of a young man whose first priority is saving the world. She follows Nicholas back and forth across the country, into the heart of the nation's vampire-run Capitol, and beyond. She risks her health, sticks out her neck, sacrifices friendship, and puts her life on the line in the name of love. Will her efforts be enough? Will she win Nicholas' heart? Can they save the world? Or will the schemes of the elder vampires put a stop to it all?

Unkillable
Unkillable is the story of a young man who is cruelly murdered then brought back from the dead to revenge himself. The kicker is: He’s not really alive. He can be hurt, he just can’t be killed. It’s dark and funny and sad and beautiful and violent and magical -- if it could be summed up with just a few words, there would have been no point in writing a novel. Unkillable. Life sucks. Death blows. In between is worse.

CrimeWAV Volume 3
CrimeWAV is a podcast series of crime stories that I’m continuing with the aim of introducing the work of published crime writers, some of the great folks I’ve been able to meet, to the podcast crime audience that I’ve developed with my JACK PALMS CRIME podcasts. I’m doing this for two reasons: I want to bring some of the great work that’s out there by people in the crime writing scene to the crime listeners I’ve developed with my podcast series–I want to give my listeners more great crime content– and I want to help the crime writers I’ve met get their work into the podcast realm so they can benefit from what I think is a great promotional opportunity in podcasting and get more readers/listeners. Basically, it’s a win/win: I’ve got an audience that wants more crime stories and I’ve been fortunate to meet a lot of great crime writers who are happy to get more exposure via the web and podcasts. As I’ve been really lucky and successful to get in on podcasting early, I want to help other writers use these tools to promote their own work. I started podcasting my first crime novel, JACK WAKES UP, back in July of 2006. From there it’s been a great ride to the Amazon charts, getting an agent, and selling JACK WAKES UP to Three Rivers Press. Along the way, I’ve been podcasting like crazy, putting out: Jack Palms II: This is Life, JACK PALMS 3 (All Caps), and the short story collections A Long Way from Disney I & II. If you’ve been a long time listener, welcome to back CrimeWAV. If you’re new here, have a listen, check things out, and come by SethHarwood.com to have a listen as well. I’m sure you’ll like what you find. Why not? It’s all free.

Marvellous Hairy - a novel in five fractals -
So hair is sprouting in unspeakable places and you can no longer carry a tune, but if you’re a surrealistic artiste with an addiction to Freudian mythology and guilt-free sex, turning into a monkey has its upsides. Nick Motbot may be evolving as a novelist, but his friends aren’t too sure about his DNA — at least, not since Gargantuan Enterprises started experimenting with it. And once they figure out what’s happening to him, they decide to set things right. MARVELLOUS HAIRY is a satirical novel about a group of friends sticking it to the man the only way they know how, with equal parts grain alcohol and applied Chaos Theory. Part literary fun-ride, part fabulist satire, and part slapstick comedy, MARVELLOUS HAIRY is about the power of friendship and love, the evils of power, and the dangers of letting corrupt CEOs run our world. And most importantly, it’s about how we have to release our fun-loving inner monkeys.

Personal Effects: Sword of Blood
Brinkvale Psychiatric Hospital art therapist Zach Taylor is endlessly curious, perhaps to a fault. When his cheerful elderly patient Gertrude “Spindle” Spindler completes her latest quilt and informs Zach that a 30-year-old "grand design of nine" has just concluded, Zach’s curiosity is piqued ... and he soon embarks on a quest to unwind the meaning of the woman's cryptic phrase. He isn't expecting a descent into a world filled with mystery and ruthless subcultures -- and he isn't expecting to be haunted by Spindle's coy clues. What is The Great Blade of Blood? What are The Charred? What is the grand design of nine? And who is the dark-skinned stranger stalking Zach at every turn, threatening his life? The answers may lie in Spindle's granddaughter, a willowy self-proclaimed psychic named Hen. But Zach soon discovers that Hen may be crazier than the patients he treats ... and the treasure he's pursuing may be more dangerous -- and deadly -- than he ever imagined.

Cell U.R. - A Sci-fi Musical Comedy Radiodrama audiobook of Vampires and Human Cellphones
Vampires dance with Goths around campfires far from the rainy Metroplex- as the Central Computer says in Cell U.R. "Most entertainment consists of beautiful people on sexy adventures without kids, because real life is the opposite." Imagine a near future, when nanotechnology allows doctors to install speakerphones on the inside of everyone's ears, a microphone in their throat, and scanners that record through the eyes. All citizens enjoy a permanent connection to the internet. One human cellphone loves two women; the tattoo artist, belly-dancing Gypsy fortune teller Vampire Elvirus, and a SuperUser's abandoned, beautiful, Wiccan, earth-mother, equestrian daughter named Louise. In this multi-media comedic satire of everything you love about B Movies and black-and-white thinking, Mark Plimsoll presents adult themes with elegance and style, buried in slang or scientific jargon, in a way almost suitable for all children of most ages, even those who can vote. Cell UR allows us to exercise our intelligence and imagination with a story "low on violence and saturated fact." Sometimes songs propel the plot; Borderline, Wiccan Moon, Imagine a Future, Santa's Lapp Dance, In Trouble, Meet Yer Expectations, Kiss and Tell Eternity, Whiplash, Onda Beach, Weird Beautiful, etc. Will Gnathal receive his new Personal Customized Transporter in time to invite Vampire Elvirus to tattoo his backside on the beach as the sun sets, to realize four of his life goals, five if she's of another race? Will the Siliconoid Aliens catch the reality show Spaceship Rambler (before Andrea loses her virginity) and exact revenge on all DNA life forms? Will Maximilliano Duroc, Global President of Metroplex, declare war in language people understand? What evil lurks in the war-torn Devastate, besides genetically modified organisms and the everyday terrors of nature at night? Cell-UR describes the near-future Twenty-first century's human conditions in humorous metaphor, through the eyes of a 'normal' industrialized, connected, urban "metrosexual" adolescent coming-of-age as part of something bigger than himself, to learn that true evil …

How to Succeed in Evil: The Novel
Alternately funny and dark, How to Succeed in Evil: The Novel, is the story of Edwin Windsor, Evil Efficiency Consultant. A biting satire of both modern business and the conventions of the superhero genre. This is new content, distinct from the original podcast episodes that have been up on podiobooks since 2006. While the novel is contained within the original podcast story arc, there's a lot more depth. Many new characters, much subplottery and (to use a technical term) it's funny as balls. Among other things we get to know Dr. Loeb a lot better. If you love one, you'll love the other. But to put it in some kind of perspective, the original podcast episodes might be best thought of as really good notes, character sketches, etc. But maybe that's downplaying them a bit as they were good enough to win a Parsec award?

Blood Witness
Catherine is a 1500 year old vampire. (She’s really 1800 but she lies about her age.) Chris is a high school senior. She is a blood sucking creature of the night. He is a Jehovah’s Witness. Together they discover something that threatens the existence of every vampire, and the only solution is to break the One Law that binds them all.

Nephilim Push
In the beginning a dark hatred ruled the heavens. It was a rage that bred floods, giants, and Hell itself. It's power yet lingers between us all, watching and waiting. Three distinct timelines document the origins of good and evil, a sadistic cult leader and a man who unwittingly finds himself in the middle of a war for all existence. As the stories converge discovery gives way to tribulation. Truth unfolds in unspeakable horror. Travel out of body on a nightmare of astral proportions. Welcome to Nephilim Push.
