Search by Tags

This page lets you filter my database of all of the new fiction and audio drama podcasts by granular tags to a precise niche. This is very much a work in progress, with tagging of shows always improving. If you want to help, submit your show or update your tagging.

Because tagging is incomplete, you may wish to leave some options empty with initial searches, and then get more specific.

You can also search by Title.

Genre tags - these are additive, so if you pick "Horror" and "Comedy", you should only get horror comedies, rather than just horror. You don't need to select a value for all of them, and some shows don't have three tags, so feel free to start broad and get more narrow.

Flawda Girls' Diaries
Flawda Girls’ Diaries is an audio collection of some almost entirely untrue short stories that trace the divine feminine through dirt roads, orange groves, and their unspoken truths tucked inside a Southern Black girl’s diary. From a divorced woman discovering yoga (and the fine instructor who teaches it), to a church girl wrestling with desire, a pregnant wife questioning everything, or a First Lady leading a congregation she’s not sure she believes in—every episode is a raw, lyrical ride through Florida’s muggy, magical, and emotionally messy backroads.

Through ”grief magic” Lexi travels into the tapes and relives those memories with younger versions of her parents and their friends. Over the course of several groove-based-psychedelic-infused-head-bobbing-adventures with the memory of her late father, Lexi learns to come to terms with his death and is able to look forward to her future. As much a story about loss and love as it is about parking lot grilled cheeses and heady jams, “Family Tape Tree” takes the listener through Phish’s vast history, to follow the story of a group of friends, a band, and the impossible task of processing loss. Absurd caricatures from the parking lot, toe-tapping grooves, and a sudden urge to call your parents; “Family Tape Tree” has something for everyone!

If Rushmore director Wes Anderson remade Caddyshack, but it emerged as a hybrid of Footloose and Meatballs (and was a book), it would be The Dockporter.  Set on Mackinac Island in northern Michigan, The Dockporter is genre-smashing, hilariously fresh, yet refreshingly familiar—a novel about friends, family, love, luggage, and the summers we never forget. Adapted from the novel of the same name, this is the first of many Mackinac Island stories to come.

Emmanuel - The broken diary - First season
The novel is based on a true diary, written by a teenager whose traces went missing years ago, whom we will call by convention Emmanuel; his disappearance dates back to 1997, so the book is set in the early 90s. Emmanuel is a restless teenager, unable to satisfy himself with the much he possesses and with a borderline personality that will lead him to make intense and messy experiences, in search of a "meaning". In this search for him he will overwhelm several characters, including Antonia, his brother Michele's girlfriend. The performers are Elisa Gandolfi and Paolo Malgioglio.

But when the barista reveals he has a scheme of his own to keep the company in his clutches, hijinks and hilarity ensue. Valerie and Juliet are more than just best friends: they are business partners in the cutthroat world of Silicon Valley, where their video game startup is on the verge of failure. They are exhausted: between running out of capital and being treated like dirt during their fundraising meetings with big-deal finance bros, they need a win, or it’s game-over. They need…a white guy. It was only supposed to be one meeting; one meeting where neighborhood barista and Random White Dude Toby Johnson pretended to be a co-founder to clinch the investment cash. But one million dollars later, Toby shows no signs of going with grace. Instead, he plots to entrench himself further into their company, which he had no part in founding, and unless Valerie and Juliet want the truth to come out—and to kiss their company goodbye—they have to play along. But Valerie and Juliet have been playing together since they were young. That’s why they started a video game company; and to save it, they are willing to break all the rules.

Eleanor dreams of finding millions of listeners for her station, KOLD Radio, and bringing 1940s-style radio dramas back to the mainstream. But right now, she's only losing money, listeners, and broadcasters. It's her last chance to save the station - so she's bringing in Celtic music diva Mary and her husband/manager Joe as potential investors, and asking them to listen to an epic radio drama about Brock and Sonya's dystopian romance, complete with advertising jingles. What could possibly go wrong - besides biologist Poppy's first time acting as "Sonya", Conall Kaleo's disappearance, and Mary's notoriously hot temper?

Closing the Distance
We're all watching the news. We're all doing our part. Some are even putting their lives on the line to contribute. We're learning how to work from our homes, and we're contending with lost jobs and the temporary (hopefully) shutdowns of entire industries. But at the same time, most of us are mourning the loss of something that we might not have even realized we valued so much: our connections to each other. Suddenly, neighbors seem as though they live halfway across the country, and friends and loved one can feel as though they're millions of miles away. How do we deal with the broad chasms that have opened? Closing the Distance is a series of ten short pieces that explores the sudden and seemingly uncrossable distance between people caused by our being sheltered in place. In each piece, individuals are faced with a lack of contact they hadn't anticipated - from loved ones, from their community, from new and emerging relationships, from their way of making a living, etc. In each case, they struggle with the distance until they find some way to bridge it, often with surprising results. Fractious relationships are healed. Unexpected relationships are formed. Essential relationships are sustained.

A Moment In Time
Dateline: Sydney. Thursday April 01, 2010. For many people, it is the day before a 4 day long weekend because of Easter. However, for a group of Sydney women doing extraordinary jobs, it is a regular day. A Moment In Time follows these women as they go about their work in traditional male roles. The women are all aiming to do the best that they can to get through each day regardless of what Sydney throws at them. Their aim is to be able to go home at the end of their shift, alive. Most people take for granted that they will go home alive at the end of the day. But for these women, lots of training, teamwork, dedication and a little bit of luck is needed. Written by Eric Brook (aka Erk from Channel Erk Podcasts), this is his first novel. You might know him better from the online world and podcasting. This book is partly based on his experiences working on the Sydney railway system, as a volunteer in an Emergency Service organisation and as a life long Sydney resident. The book is entirely set on Thursday 01 April 2010. Following each character through the city of Sydney, incidents and their lives interconnect through the story. A Moment In Time was almost entirely written on an iPhone using an application called My Writing Nook.

The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed
Would you like some music to go with your story? Alex Austin hopes you will. He’s integrated the work of 20 contemporary bands and 40 songs into The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed. It’s the late Sixties, the Beatles intact, Jimi Hendrix exploding and the Doors demanding the world. And on the East Coast, famed resort Asbury Park, New Jersey, will become the epicenter of a new brand of rock and roll. But in January 1968, a boardwalk Liverpool lies in the future. Escalating crime and a fading reputation have shaken the City by the Sea. Asbury is at tipping point, Cast down into the fading resort on a bleak winter night, 22-year-old musician Sam Nesbitt wants to be big—Jimi Hendrix/Eric Clapton big—but he has to survive Asbury first. Witnessing the tail-end of a murder on his first night in town, Sam keeps his distance from the crime’s investigation. But the murder will crash back into Sam’s life. As Sam pursues his dream of glory, he rides a roller coaster of triumphs and defeats. He’s the outsider who can’t break in, he’s the guitarist that every band wants. He’s a working class hero, he’s a pawn in their game. He’s a dream lover, he’s breaking hearts. The Asbury music scene is the Wild Wild West: Shootouts on Main Street and rock and roll showdowns on Ocean Boulevard. In this increasingly surreal town, the Atlantic seems to be casting off a new band each day. They wash up on the boardwalk feet flocked with sand, water dripping from their guitars, looking for the stage, looking to face down the local talent. So Welcome to The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed, where Madam Marie’s not talking, Mr. Peanut’s not pushing Planters, and if you’re out after midnight you better be carrying a six-string.

Unconventional
YOUNG JAMES FROST just knows, deep in his bones, that he's a writer. He writes far into early mornings, after his wearying hours of scrubbing toilets and sweeping floors. He loves writing that much. But it's not only the joy of words that keeps him grinding; it's his desire to retire the janitor's mop. He sees being published as the key to living an improved life. James has another deep-seated conviction: that he's not good enough. He secretly longs to be accepted. However, the conventional others in his life seem all too willing to remind him that he's wasting his time. Then he meets and falls in love with Leigh, the one bright spot in his endless misery of self-doubt. A quiet but resolutely religious girl, she has to fight off disapproval of her own from overly critical parents, whose insults are countered by James's often-voiced admiration of her. Likewise, Leigh's faith in his talents begins to build his confidence, eventually allowing her to introduce him to a different way to help himself: relying on God. Ultimately, James's newfound faith is sorely tested to the point of doubt when his dream to be published seems to melt into a mirage, smothered by countless rejection slips from agents and publishers. His faith is also battered by having to fight highly emotional battles and suffer fear and loss. Just when James appears hopelessly sapped by devastating events, one last door opens, and he's rocked by an epiphany.
