Her dozing is shattered by the sound of two mighty California pines crashing to the ground. The stage coach was bracketed. They are trapped! A clear contra alto voice rings out. "Stand and Deliver, mis amigos"   Mary had heard the voice of Consuela, Bandit Queen of California for the first , but not last, time.

Mary supects there is something more sinisiter is afoot when she meets Dona Maria Carola de la Casta Nets De Su Mama, a local land baron and fixture of the community.
