Gallivanting Goblins was conceived as part of Wassail Theatre Company's Connecting Communities project in response to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. Inspired primarily by Yakov Polonsky's children's fable, 'A Winter's Journey' (1884), which sees a rider seeking out the immortal Koschei the Deathless, and orchestrated with key themes from 'The Firebird Suite' by Igor Stravinshi (1910), it draws heavily on the translated works of Alexander Afanasyev in ' Narodyne russkie skazki' (1855), which were included in 'The Red Fairy Book' (1890).

This has all been made in the true spirit of Christmas. It is an adaptation of the 1939, radio play starring Lionel Barrymore, whom some say is the best and only Ebeneezer Scrooge.
