Madison Story Slam is back after more than three years! Both the podcast and our live events are back. Our next event is Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center in Madison, WI. Tom Farley returns to the Madison Story Slam microphone (the first guest to do that) to share a bit about how he is doing in a post pandemic world, and how he’s using the power of story to connect with people seeking sobriety. Tom’s brother Chris Farley had a very public struggle with addiction, and ultimately succumbed to his disease in December 1997. Tom’s learning how to step away from the fringes of Chris’ limelight to start sharing his own story to connect to people.

We are now doing two episodes a week! As evidenced by this second episode this week. We are committed to providing you with episodes to fill your days with great stories. You are all a big part of this community, and we thank you for your support. Here's a warning that this episode deals with suicide. While it's a tough subject, we believe that it's important to talk about this subject. We deal with real life stories, and all that they entail. Our hope is that these two stories provide healing and comfort to everyone who hears them, especially those who have dealt directly with suicide in their life.

First up, Ryan Haack is sharing a few stories about his dad. Ryan told this story on the 4 year anniversary of his dad's death by suicide. I love how Ryan ends his story. It's also a story you may want to see on video (YouTube links for both stories are below) because there are some visual aspects that may make it better. The second story on the episode is told by Jessica Regan, and it is also about the death of her father by suicide. I am continually blown away by the willingness of the members of our community to share deep aspects of their personal lives. It's just amazing. Enjoy the episode.

You might know Kevin Allison from the MTV sketch comedy show, The State. The 90's sketch show brought us actors like Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black, and Kerri Kenney. After The State, Kevin spent years not quite sure where his comedy voice fit. Not comfortable with the big, outlandish characters from sketch, he finally found a home in storytelling. In 2009 Kevin started the show Risk! where people told stories that they never thought they'd be telling to their friends, let alone a room full of strangers (and an internet full of millions of fans).
