AFTERSHOW - Chapter 04 - Cicatrice

Tue, 15 Jul 2025 10:07:00 GMT

In this two-part deep dive, Shockwaves hosts Jess and Arthur return to the mud-caked heart of Tuitoma for Chapter 4: Cicatrice. What unfolds isn’t drama in the traditional sense—it’s survival in slow motion. Ser Sarrafin wakes up bruised, works blood into the soil, and dodges both ghosts and gossip. It’s a chapter about pain that doesn’t climax, friendships that don’t console, and dreams barely whispered for fear they’ll break.

Jess challenges Arthur on the brutal rhythms of the story—why the focus on fieldwork, frostbite, and fence posts instead of fantasy spectacle. Arthur counters: Cicatrice isn’t about escaping hard times; it’s about enduring them. From Ser’s bruised eye to his uncle Ward’s bitter wisdom, this chapter captures the cost of simply staying upright when the world offers no softness.

They unpack the power of routine—meals, tools, chores—as a form of quiet defiance, and highlight how friendship, especially with the endlessly inventive Rolen, acts as both relief and reminder of what Ser’s life could be. Listener questions spark discussion on masculinity, trauma, folklore, the role of silence, and whether Ser’s writing is a cry for change or a record of survival.

There’s talk of foxes smarter than townsfolk, bread thrown in festival games, and pipe smoke that lingers like memory. Arthur insists that nothing magical happens here—unless you count a patched roof or a moment of rest—but leaves just enough space for readers to wonder.

By the end, the message is clear: Tuitoma doesn’t promise escape. But it does promise you’ll be seen—mud-streaked, bone-weary, notebook in hand—if you’re willing to write it down.

Chapter 04 - Cicatrice

Mon, 14 Jul 2025 10:07:00 GMT

In Cicatrice, the fourth chapter of Stellar Shock, dawn finds Ser Sarrafin dragging his battered body through the fields of Tuitoma, each step thick with mud and pain. His eye swollen shut from Ward’s drunken violence, Ser labors alone beneath a bruised sky, the village still waking, the fields demanding more than they ever return. Every moment aches—physically, emotionally—and yet he endures, silently measuring his worth against rows of soil and years of scars.

By midday, Ser escapes the weight of the hoe for a few stolen minutes beneath a tree. The quiet is interrupted by the approach of his friends—Balu, Viti, Lavu, and Rolen—boys still rough-edged but loyal. They crack jokes about Ser’s bruises, mask concern with humor, and invite him to camp out with them. It’s more than a break from chores; it’s an act of care in a place that offers little else.

That night by the fire, amidst the smoke and laughter, deeper truths surface. They share old stories, whispered fears, and silent dreams. Rolen, ever eager, brings food and a handmade candle. Viti sneaks drink. Lavu listens more than he speaks. And Ser, quiet and watchful, listens for something beyond the world they know. Talks of magic, of the keepers, and of leaving Tuitoma surface—fleeting hopes in a place where hope is often currency spent too fast.

Back home, Ward shows an uncharacteristic moment of softness, feeding Ser a rare steak and speaking, however briefly, of the past—of Ser’s father, and the cost of scars left behind. It’s not reconciliation, but it’s more than silence.

The next day brings more labor, more aches, more of Tuitoma’s indifferent grind. But Rolen returns with a small invention to scare off crows—ugly but effective, like much of their lives—and together they find slivers of pride in shared effort. Even Ward, gruff and bitter, acknowledges the work. The boys regroup to fish and dream, trying to build something from scraps—both literal and emotional.

By chapter’s end, their raft—meant to carry them out of this village and toward imagined freedom—breaks apart in the river. What follows is a night of bruises, laughter, and something harder to name: the knowledge that even when nothing changes, they have.

Cicatrice isn’t just about scars—it’s about the stories they carry, the boys who share them, and the moments of connection that keep them human in a world that often forgets to care.

AFTERSHOW - Chapter 03 - Purl

Tue, 08 Jul 2025 10:07:00 GMT

This week on Shockwaves, Jess and Arthur return to the village of Tuitoma to unpack the quiet devastation and simmering tension of Chapter Four. As Ser Sarrafin ventures into Afirit to trade for rope, what should be a routine errand reveals the social rot under the surface—strikes, resentments, and unspoken hierarchies tightening like the heat around Ser’s throat.

Arthur dives into the tonal shift: the jungle air is stifling, yes—but so is the social atmosphere. Conversations bristle with coded language and exhausted courtesy, especially with characters like Alrek, whose passive barbs cut deeper than they seem. Jess calls out the subtle power dynamics on display: who trades, who defers, who bites their tongue. Every smile in this chapter is double-edged.

The hosts reflect on the political undertow that drives the chapter forward. Tuitoma isn’t just poor—it’s precarious. The supply runs and bartering rituals are survival tactics, yes, but they’re also about navigating who gets to be heard, and who doesn’t. Arthur admits this chapter is a slow burn, but one that matters. “You need to feel how frayed the system is before the collapse means anything.”

There’s also discussion of how Ser’s internal world is shifting—how the bruises from the festival haven’t faded, and neither have the questions. The rope isn’t just a tool—it’s a metaphor. And when Ser returns home empty-handed, the unraveling begins.

This episode of Shockwaves is all about quiet desperation, unresolved tension, and the small decisions that fracture everything later.

Chapter 03 - Purl

Mon, 07 Jul 2025 10:07:00 GMT

In this chapter, the village of Tuitoma bursts to life on the night of the festival, where torchlight and music offer temporary escape from the drudgery of rural life. Ser Sarrafin, young and heavy with unspoken grief, navigates the chaotic warmth of community: firelight, song, children’s laughter, and the sharp camaraderie of friends. He is swept into the celebration reluctantly, until an impromptu performance thrusts him into the center. His voice carries the weight of old wounds, and when he sings, the village listens.

But joy is fleeting. The night ends with Ser bloodied and silent, back in his uncle’s house, where alcohol and resentment take shape in fists. The next morning is no gentler—mud, chores, and the ever-tightening rhythm of survival return. Vera, brash and loyal, offers comfort without pity, while friends and neighbors quietly register the bruises Ser doesn’t speak of.

Life in Tuitoma presses on. The minstrels depart. The council squabbles over festival damage. Work fills the days with sweat and aching hands. And still, amid bruises and broken fences, something stubborn endures: the pull of song, the lift of Vera’s laugh, the hope stitched into fields that won’t stop needing tending. As the chapter closes, Ser learns that even in a place where the past bruises as much as fists, the future still demands showing up.

AFTERSHOW - Chapter 02 - Prospectus

Tue, 01 Jul 2025 10:07:00 GMT

Podcast Summary – Shockwaves: Chapter 2 – Prospectus

Welcome back to Shockwaves, the official aftershow for Stellar Shock. In this episode, Jess and Arthur dissect Chapter Two: Prospectus, the brutal, breathless descent into war-torn Tuitoma. What begins with sweaty shirts and cracked fences ends in smoke, blood, and silence—and Arthur holds nothing back.

We explore the relentless detail of a village barely holding together before the enemy even arrives. From the scuffed sandals of barefoot kids to a sword too cursed to lift, Chapter Two is where tension transforms into open conflict—and where survival becomes the only kind of victory anyone gets.

Arthur opens up about his inspirations, his refusal to flinch from pain, and why there’s no room for heroes in a place where every patched roof is a prayer. We get into:

The slow-burn dread of Tuitoma’s daily life

Why violence in this world is confusing, ugly, and always leaves scars

The complicated love between Ser and Ward, and how legacy is both a weapon and a wound

The Black Sword as symbol, curse, and silent witness

The fight that rips through the rain—and why no one cheers after

There’s no fantasy gloss here. Just mud, cracked ribs, and the iron will to see morning.

As Arthur puts it: “Hope is what you carry because you don’t have a choice.” And in Prospectus, every choice cuts.

Standout lines:

“Still here.” – The mantra of survival.

“You don’t get to choose your moment.” – Ser’s hard truth.

“No one cheered. No one called it a victory.” – Because it wasn’t.

Join us as we dig through aftermath, memory, and what it means to hold the line when everything’s already burning. And send us your questions—next week, we unpack what’s left when the smoke clears.

Shockwaves—no glory, just grit.

AFTERSHOW - Chapter 01 - Demesne

Wed, 25 Jun 2025 11:59:00 GMT

Welcome to Shockwaves, the official aftershow breakdown for Stellar Shock! Hosts Jess and Arthur dig deep—literally and thematically—into Chapter 1: Demesne, where the world of Afirit comes to life through sweat, soil, and splinters.

They unpack Ser Sarrafin’s quiet strength, the relentless routine of Tuitoma’s survival, and how magick—or the lack of it—shapes power and purpose. From the rough loyalty of Ser’s chaotic friends to the heartwarming arrival of young Rolen and his busted carrot-puller invention, the episode explores how small moments carry big meaning.

Jess and Arthur break down everything from Ser’s complex relationship with magick to the subtle warnings of danger drifting in from upriver. They discuss the brutal realism of work without reward, the unspoken tension of village politics, and how humor, mentorship, and stubbornness keep the people of Tuitoma moving forward—even as shadows begin to circle.

This is Stellar Shock at its most grounded: no heroes, no prophecies—just dirt, duty, and the quiet, defiant hope of people who refuse to break.

Chapter 01 - Demesne

Tue, 24 Jun 2025 16:55:41 GMT

In the heart of the jungle-bound village of Tuitoma, young Ser Sarrafin shoulders the toil of survival one ker-chunk of his hoe at a time. In Chapter 1: Demesne, we meet Ser—a quiet, steadfast farmer nicknamed “Tomasi” for his ability to fade into the background—who has built a life out of hard earth, blistered hands, and unshakable perseverance. As Tuitoma grows from tents to adobe, Ser’s work feeds the village, even as his own magick remains dormant in a world where others wield the elements with ease.

Through the heat and hardship, Ser’s bond with his mischievous friends—Viti, Balu, and Lavu—and the inventive young Rolen brings flickers of humor, heart, and hope. But the harmony of their everyday lives is shaken when unsettling signs begin to wash ashore from upriver: remnants of travelers, whispers of northern flames, and strangers seeking refuge. As the village elders prepare for change, Ser is left to confront what it means to belong, to endure, and to prepare for the trouble that always follows the river.

Demesne is a grounded and evocative opening to a tale of resilience, elemental power, and quiet rebellion. With rich detail and deep emotional undercurrents, this chapter sows the seeds of a larger journey—a coming-of-age forged not just by magick, but by purpose, grit, and the refusal to be overlooked.

AFTERSHOW 00B - Prologue

Sat, 07 Jun 2025 11:00:00 GMT

In our premiere episode of Shockwaves, Jess sits down with Arthur—the mind behind Stellar Shock—to tear into the prologue and first episode, “Argument.” No soft takes, no safe ground. Just raw conversation about a world where magic cuts, monsters bleed, and survival is earned one bruise at a time.

They talk scorched earth and floating cities, dissect the brutal raid on Cornelia, and get into the heads of unlikely intruders Kani and Roch. From bloodied ropes to the silent rage of a captured princess, every beat gets the breakdown it deserves.

Arthur shares what drives his storytelling: no gloss, no fantasy escape hatches—just pain, pressure, and the small stubborn hope people carve out when the world’s set on crushing them. Along the way, they unpack the realism behind the violence, the weight of silence, and why the sharpest lines are found in the quietest moments.

00B - Prologue

Sat, 07 Jun 2025 07:00:00 GMT

The skies over Cornelia churn with wind and war in this electrifying prologue episode. High above the ocean’s fog, floating islands cradle an empire bound by ancient canta and proud defiance of gravity. But pride burns fast.

As shadows gather and phoenixes rise, a brutal siege erupts atop the wind-swept city of Carna. Two unlikely infiltrators scale rooftops. Squads in black canta swarm the Wind Keeper’s mansion. His plan: to abduct a princess, raze her home, and make the world remember his name.

And as Cornelia falls, somewhere deep in the jungle, a boy wakes from a dream soaked in fire—a dream not his own.

00A - Argument

Sat, 07 Jun 2025 05:00:00 GMT

In this haunting episode, we walk through a landscape long since ravaged—by fire, by time, by things better left unnamed. Charred trees lean like forgotten sentinels, their roots tangled in ash and bone. The wind whispers through what remains, stirring fragments of the past: broken branches, claw marks, and the quiet evidence of lives ended without ceremony.

As day fades and shadow stretches, we follow travelers who cross this scarred terrain without claiming it, moving carefully among the remains of something once vibrant. The forest watches in silence. Nature doesn’t mourn. It endures.

This is a story about what’s left behind—and what still might be watching.
