Synopsis:
Ghost Hampton By Ken McGorry The public clamor over a purported haunted house in the middle of Bridgehampton has not died down, as much as Lyle Hall wishes it would—he’s the unlikely discoverer of whatever’s been going on inside the decrepit Victorian everyone calls Old Vic. Since Lyle’s near-death experience killing kindly Elsie Cronk with his Hummer in a grisly car crash, he hasn’t been the same. He’s seen the error of his ways, his misspent adulthood, his career as the town’s greediest lawyer, his attempted playboy lifestyle, and truly wants to make amends. One new wrinkle—Lyle hears things. Dead things, dead people. And sometimes sees them, too. He cannot control the sounds and visions. Especially when a sad girl in Victorian garb appears to him outside Old Vic. She wants something, just like living people, but does not speak English. However, she does show Lyle a terrifying vision: his estranged 30-year-old daughter’s tombstone. Southampton Police detective Georgie Hall has four more days to live. If you believe such things. And she does not. GHOST HAMPTON, based on the novel by Ken McGorry, is narrated by Dennis Kleinman and stars and array of actors bringing the story to cinematic life.

After a huge blowup on camera, Lyle deserts the TV set and passes out in his room. Awakening later, he realizes Iko could actually be right about him. Distraught, he calls Silk to attempt an apology, waking her. Fumbling to speak to her, Lyle hears her snotty director is in bed with her, and freaks, hanging up. Her televised memorial to Flo complete, Silk shocks Lyle by introducing her replacement, live on air. “Iko” is a Haitian mambo with deep supernatural understanding. Big Frank is on duty at Old Vic tonight, but first visited the precinct house. He tells Georgie over the phone that Internal affairs is there, and all over Sgt. Swanson’s locker. He got to go through some very old files and discovered something quite curious. He adds that, passing by the Montauk motel/bar, there’s a big network TV presence, and her father is there. Chantale visits Berto at his shabby limo service office and he stashes away his cocaine and his AR-15 military rifle. Once again, she is dressed for an evening out. Chantale taunts Berto about his additional duty—to father children with her. Leaving, she taunts him: if he is a good boy, he can be sure his children are his. Georgie discusses Berto over the phone with Frank. Drunk now and on the phone with Noah, Lyle learns of Old Vic’s sordid history—just as he’s beckoned onto the TV set. Silk, outraged, barges into Lyle’s Montauk motel room to excoriate him for trying to back out of his exclusive media contract. Lyle pushes back, stressing how his daughter, Georgie, is being harassed by cops at the station house over her father’s involvement in “Ghost Hampton.” But Lyle reports to the motel bar; the crew is there, preparing for this evening’s TV shoot. Gertie the old barmaid detests Lyle and resists serving him a second drink at closing despite the “Twenty” he offers her. Flo starts pressuring Lyle to give up his pathetic longing for Silk when suddenly the bar owner appears and throws them both out. Walking to Lyle’s house, Flo notes the cemetery across from his home, which is totally toilet-papered by locals! Georgie drives up and argues with Lyle. Silk and her TV crew drag Lyle along to revisit Old Vic—but it’s locked tight by police. Flo adds that Jewel promised a return of “full function” to his injured legs. Silk suggests that could be sexual. She asks what Lyle and Fr. Matteo experienced inside Old Vic. Lyle is candid: he was possessed by invisible spiders and “pure evil” while Matteo “set free” prostitute ghosts by praying. Silk promises they’ll return to Old Vic next, and Lyle freaks. At Gurney’s Inn, Lyle cleans up and changes into the resort’s “leisure wear.” Flo notes how inappropriate his sweatsuit’s color–peach–is for TV. At the motel taproom/TV set, bartender Rooney is upset–the shoot will ruin his business–but Lyle gets him happily paid off.
