After charging into battle against a room full of animated skeletons, our heroes discover more than they bargained for. The necromancer, bitter about his unexpected skeletal transformation, had been partnering with someone named Alyssum to combine illusion and necromagic for sinister purposes. Their goal? Creating abominations and bringing spectral entities into reality - a plan that thankfully fell apart before completion.
With Dolo's fiery culinary weapon delivering the final blow, the adventurers free imprisoned soldiers and claim their unlikely spoils: a cave hideout, wolf pelts, mysterious infernal books, and an amulet that causes searing pain and invasive thoughts when worn. Their newfound team name, "The Necrowolves," seems particularly fitting given the circumstances.
Arriving in the rough town of Kerr Hill, the duo navigates the dangerous streets to find a blacksmith dealing in more than just metalwork. After some tense negotiation involving fire magic threats and references to underground connections, they secure valuable information about the mysterious amulet along with a few magical upgrades. But who is this person the blacksmith recommends, and what secrets do the sealed infernal books hold?

As they journey north toward Kerhill, our heroes stumble upon an abandoned military campsite that carries unsettling traces of both illusion and necrotic magic.
The air thrums with dark energy as they discover a captain's diary revealing increasing paranoia, strange eyes watching in the night, and soldiers disappearing after behaving oddly. When dawn breaks, the party awakens surrounded by spectral wolves – ethereal creatures that observe but don't attack, their glowing eyes burning into our heroes' minds.
Following a trail east, they discover a cave entrance decorated with real wolf corpses mounted on stakes – a macabre mirror to the spectral pack that stalked them. Inside, overwhelming necrotic energy pours forth "like a water faucet turned on," and deeper exploration reveals soldiers trapped in magical trances, unresponsive to rescue attempts.
In the central chamber, they confront the source of this corruption – a skeletal figure in robes with fabricated skin patches, ranting about betrayal. This necromancer reveals his connection to someone named "Alyssum" who broke promises that would have restored his body. When Dolo and Vance's attempts at deception fail, skeletal soldiers rise, and battle becomes inevitable.

Vance discovers his eyes now glow red when illusions are nearby, allowing him to identify shadow creatures disguised as ordinary people. The recurring declaration that "that baby ain't real" becomes his warning call as he spots imposters among the refugees. Meanwhile, Dolo bears a mysterious symbol on his shoulder, granting him access to magical abilities he never possessed before. Together, they navigate the chaos while piecing together the fragments of their strange experience.

Fleeing to Essel's church provides only temporary sanctuary as our heroes discover the terrifying reality: these beings aren't undead creatures that can be turned away by divine power. They're something else entirely, manipulated by a tall woman with extraordinary illusion abilities. "I can be whoever I want to be," she claims, demonstrating her power by transforming into various people before their eyes.
The woman presents our heroes with a chilling choice - surrender themselves to her or watch as everyone in the town perishes. Despite their mistrust, they reluctantly agree, finding themselves transported through a void where time loses all meaning.
