When Chandra abruptly returns, the mood instantly shifts. Shocked by her attitude, Xelas and Rokain rush in while Ygin puts himself toe to toe with his ex. Neither are willing to back down and Ygin and Chandra’s harsh words are a mere hint of the long-simmering storm which is rapidly bubbling to the surface between them.

Having decided not to spend any more time resting than necessary, the heroes prepare for the final descent into the watery heart. It’s agreed that no resources should go unused. Even Kaxus sends as much help as he’s able, though the result leaves everyone wondering if they’ve had some sort of stroke. In the last moments before they discover what exactly is causing the infection, Grolen quietly asks for some final words.

Caught fast in the grip of pure Ichoric oozes, Ygin, Xelas and Grolen have little choice over getting injected with even more Ichor. Whereas Ygin and Xelas oddly seem able to shake it off easily, Grolen is not so lucky. Rokain’s desperate reach for power may just be the turning point everyone needs – if they can hold on a little longer. With another ooze on its way, Victory or Defeat teeter on the point of a few seconds’ actions.

A swollen reservoir doesn’t hold as many answers as they had hoped but it does reveal something far worse, much to Grolen’s distress. On top of that, it appears Quoran has used the last of the energy they can spare and is no longer able to provide guidance. Left alone, deep underground, it seems like the heroes only have one way to go: down.

Bob’s Wondrous Emporium might only ever hold ten items yet there’s no beating their impressive, storied nature, perfect wares for the apparently legendary heroes who are able to enter. Xelas, Ygin and Rokain aren’t so sure they buy the ‘legendary hero’ bit. Nonetheless, now that they’ve wrangled an ancestor’s story out of Bob, they turn their eyes to some of the other treasures in the hope they can find a satisfactory agreement with Bob’s unusual methods of payment. Meanwhile, Grolen waits for an explanation and Quoran isn’t about to let them forget their promise of help.

There’s no time to waste if the heroes want to save Quoran. They follow the whistled summons only to find their way blocked by a dangerous creature known as a Gaunt One which likes to drown anyone it comes across. Grolen isn’t being metaphorical either when he says they will steal your heart. What should be an easy fight instantly proves to be much more troublesome as they all struggle to maneuver in the narrow passageways. Of course, the Gaunt One has no difficulties at all strolling right up to sink its claws into its first victim.

The heroes ignored the dream warning and delved into the dark depths. Now they’re confronted with signs all around that something is terribly wrong in the mountain. After Ygin spots ominous apologies carved into a wall and Rokain finds a dismembered finger, everyone is on edge when the distant screaming starts. Although prepared for a trap, the source of the screaming might be far more of a punch to the gut than they expected and no one could predict just who needs to be saved.

Journeying deeper into the mysterious mountains of Parzit, the heroes quickly realize their presence isn’t exactly welcomed. Their guide, Grolen, proves he’s worth his weight in gold by helping them avoid some of the most dangerous areas. Still, they must contend with strangling vines, rainbow dodo raptors and pig-tusked weasels, who may or may not want to drink their blood or perhaps become their friend. Even worse, it seems even the mountain itself is warning them to go back and stay away in the most painful way possible.

Happy birthday Kaxus! For the first time in over a decade, he celebrates with friends; a joyful occasion sadly overshadowed by the imminent journey to far Parzit. Xelas, Ygin and Rokain arrive in the nick of time too if the boarded-up village is anything to go by. Under threat from not-beast beasts, the survivors are desperate for any help they can get. But to get to the source, the heroes will need a guide. Thankfully, a handsome drow whom Xelas immediately vibes with offers his help, much to Rokain’s extreme irritation.

Precious seconds are ticking away rapidly and Rokain, Ygin and Xelas must think quickly. Optimism says they can surely both stop Tilly and save Remaria, and Experience hasn’t yet taught them there’s advantages in numbers which means it’s time to split the party. Ygin needs to hurry though Remaria’s house is strangely conveniently close; Rokain discovers Xelas doesn’t understand the concept of a chain of command; Tilly finds it easy to smack these ‘heroes’ around; and as for Remaria, time is shortest for her of them all.

Was it truly a ploy to gain the coroner’s job or does Tilly have something else up her devious sleeve? The heroes have a choice they must make and the clock is ticking against them.

Finally on a trail and hopefully headed for answers, they forget something has been on their tail as well. Rokain better shake off his existential horror quickly if he's to have any hope of saving Kayleigh and himself.

It’s a high bar for Xelas and Rokain. Ygin, not so much. Maybe a couple of rounds of blackjack will give them the answers they need.
