Synopsis:

The Recalling is a patchwork of untrustworthy memories. The story of my life is not linear. Instead, it comes to me in a series of horrific flashes and cherished moments and if I'm to tell my story honestly, I will have to share both.

The stories feature creatures that may be recognizable but most you've never seen or heard of.

The tales unravel in places that may seem familiar and locations that can be found on no map and suffer no names.

Some memories will be disturbing, others may be wondrous, yet all will be dark as light is not a place I've spent much time in.

Before we begin, I must ask you to be careful.

My memories may become your nightmares and my experiences may prove your cautionary tales - but that will only serve to bring us closer together as parts of this podcast are quite interactive.

S. 1 Ep. 14 Christmas Mourning (A Horror Podcast) Holiday Special Event

Tue, 19 Dec 2023 04:00:00 -0500

Send us a Text Message.

The podcast has come full circle.

Almost a year ago, I began it by telling a story called "Coffins for Christmas" that has since become the most popular and shared episode of the season. That, along with all those that followed, have been downloaded thousands of times in over a dozen countries. To say I'm surprised at this success would be an understatement as the moment I put that holiday episode out into the world, I thought, "Who will want to hear the tales of my strange life?"

So as we move into season two, I thought it only fitting to end where it began, telling the story of Christmas in a way you have not experienced. In this one, we look into the past to the blood that began one of its most cherished traditions.

But this is not my story.

During my intermission episodes that answered listener questions, I would often go into my library for those answers. This collection I've built over the years has rare books and journals, many the only that exist, and contain facts, descriptions, and events of a most macabre and terrifying nature. The feed back was unmistakable, you've all enjoyed this glimpse into my private collection.

So that is where I dipped into once more for the topic of this episode, to read an account both terrifying and telling, I hope when you look at common decorations after listening, you see them in a different, and darker way.

S. 1 EP. 13 It Came From a Corpse (A Horror Podcast)

Tue, 05 Dec 2023 04:00:00 -0500

Send us a Text Message.

One thing ends and another begins – but this is the space in between.

During the intermission between seasons I've been focused on answering listener requests in the form of bite sized episodes - though I couldn't help but stretch some even further.

In this full length (and then some) tale, I recall my one and only encounter with a strange creature called a Rivinia.

It is a story I barely lived to tell.

In all my travels and all my books, this creature has been a rumor. I've never seen so much as a detailed sketch of it, let alone a photo or video - and with almost the entire population of the world holding an HD camera at the ready for anything that might gain them views on social media, one has to question if it exists at all.

In this story, I will show you that it does and that its origin is stranger and more disturbing than anything you've ever imagined.

In a few weeks, I will announce the arrival of season two. I hope to go even deeper into the world you've never seen and tell you of the horrifying creatures and strange places I've seen. I will tell you blood curdling stories of my childhood and personal stories of my family. You are invited to go as deep as you dare into the recesses of my memories.

I hope that if you enjoy my stories, you will subscribe, rate, or leave a comment so that others might follow the same trail that has lead you to this podcast.

If you’re new to the podcast, I encourage you to take a step back into the first season to learn more about me and my life.

Listener Episode 9: Cheeky Bones (A Horror Podcast)

Tue, 21 Nov 2023 04:00:00 -0500

Send us a Text Message.

One thing ends and another begins – but this is the space in between.

Before the new season of The Recalling begins, these bite sized episodes will live in the void, but they are much more. They are an index of creatures that surround us, monsters with no names, angels with no wings, the folklore that folklore forgot. Each short episode will introduce you to the things under your bed and in your closet.

What makes them even more special is that they feature the podcasts listeners themselves. Sailing on the raft of their curiosity, they’ve asked me to tell them what lurks in the shadows around them where they live.

If you’ve ever told yourself there’s nothing there, that you’re alone, that there’s nothing to be scared of, all while the hairs on the back of your neck beg to differ, then perhaps you should reach out to me and ask.

In this short (ish) episode, listener Tess asked me to discuss the darker parts of London's history. More succinctly, she was curious what parts of that past linger in the shadows of the modern city. The darkness in the corners of a city like London is thick with tragedy that remains unsettled and unknown - to pick just one story is a challenge.

However, I've settled on one that I have a long-time affinity for. To understand the present danger, I have to take you back to a past tragedy and the history that came even before that. Only then will you comprehend the life and death of Ardith, the Reclaimer.

If you’re new to the podcast, I encourage you to take a step back into the first season to learn more about me and my life.

In this short episode, listener and longtime supporter who you've might have heard of before, ThatBurntWriter, wanted to know if there was anything to know, or fear, about Iceland - which is also one of my favorite places in the world.

To answer her question I wanted to tell the story regarding the stark absence of trees there. Yes, there are some but the vast forests that once covered it have been done away with and while there are many theories why, I'd like to add one more - one that I have read about only sporadically as the branches of history are sometimes trimmed or cut off completely.

It is the story of giants, Vikings, and bravery in the face of horror. It is a connection between nations and the darkness we, as people, have always had to endure and overcome to carve out our place on this planet.

S. 1 Ep. 12 A Kindness or a Curse (A Horror Podcast) Halloween Special Event

Tue, 17 Oct 2023 04:00:00 -0400

Send us a Text Message.

There are few things in our lives that don't have a story to tell. Common sayings, holidays, the names of our months and days, all evolved into what we know from something most of us have forgotten.

Luckily, through the efforts of historians and the miracle of the written record, we can look back over our collective existence to piece together the modern experience.

To celebrate the Halloween holiday, I want to do just that.

I want to give you a glimpse of how some things came to be as they are. Of course, any holiday is more complicated than one story, but this one, long forgotten, might just help you to appreciate how the tragedy of a single day long ago can still influences us each year.

If you’re new to the podcast, I encourage you to take a step back into the first season to learn more about me and my life.

S. 1 Ep. 11 The Bloat (A Horror Podcast)

Tue, 03 Oct 2023 04:00:00 -0400

Send us a Text Message.

While this space between the last season of The Recalling and the next has been set aside for short episodes, I couldn't resist telling you of something that just happened to me. So, I sat down, covered in dirt, blood, and fluids I'd rather not speak of, to bring you the events of last night.

When my work comes local, almost to my doorstep, there is a great sense of urgency to it. It feels as if I'm pushing the storm clouds back and fighting to preserve the one spot in the sun I can call my own. Just yesterday, as I was enjoying a rare day of leisure, those clouds amassed on a farm just a few miles from my home.

Something strange was happening in those fields. While the New England landscape is settling down to sleep for the winter, the grasses that stretched over the grazing fields here was vibrant and growing quickly. While that was strange enough, it was nothing compared to the fact that the cows that ate it were beginning to explode.

The night that followed led to the discovery of a creature I'd never seen but whose story I often think.

If you’re new to the podcast, I encourage you to take a step back into the first season to learn more about me and my life.

In this short Episode, listener Michael Clark reached out to me to discover what deadly creature may be reaching out to him in Mississippi. To answer this I refer to a journal that is a few hundred years old where just such a creature is described and still stalks the landscape today.

In this short Episode, two listeners who wish to remain in the safety of anonymity were concerned what creatures stalk the countryside of Wales. While there is no shortage to choose from in this corner of our world, one particular tiny speck of life did come to mind - and a positive one it is.

However, there are two sides to every coin.

S. 1 Ep. 10 The Rumors of my Death - Part 2 - and the Grivval Interview (A Horror Podcast)

Tue, 30 May 2023 03:00:00 -0400

Send us a Text Message.

It seems my demise is still a bit off - though probably still over the next hill.

In the episode of The Recalling, I return to the studio with the Grivvals to put an ending to the mystery that left the last episode hanging from the cliff and answer listener questions to wrap up the first season of the podcast.

Those questions chosen will be entered into an upcoming contest where the winner(s) will receive free copies of forthcoming merchandise. The winner(s) will be chosen at random and contacted privately before announcing them publicly (which will only be done with their consent)

Also explored were future projects that will be fed and grown before the next season begins, including a new subseries that will be interactive in nature and design.

I would like to thank all of you who have listened, rated, and subscribed.

I will return shortly with a new season of stories and adventures soon.

Presented in 3D audio.

Headphones and discretion are advised.

S: 1 Ep: 9 The Rumors of my Death - Part 1 (A Horror Podcast)

Fri, 12 May 2023 16:00:00 -0400

Send us a Text Message.

In this episode of The Recalling, the Grivvals have been tasked with answering a very troubling question - why the last episode was not posted.

Each day I wake I realize it may be the last time I do so. My work is such that each minute I find myself still alive is a reason for celebration. During my most recent travels I found myself in a situation there seemed to be no way out from.

When I can avoid it, I will not fly. My reason? If the plane decides to no longer operate as designed, to no longer listen to the pilots commanding it, to follow that constant and irresistible call of gravity, there is little I can do to ensure I will walk away from the wreckage. Even if I manage to leap from the exit door on the way to impact, I can not fly.

But I can swim.

For this reason I take boats at any opportunity I can find. Small boats, large ships, anything that floats is preferable to anything that flies for the single reason that if a ship goes down I still have a chance to survive. However, there are variables to consider. For example, what is IN the waters that surround me.

Sometimes the answer to that simple question makes me yearn to be in a plane saftley soaring through the sky.

Presented in 3D audio.

Headphones and discretion are advised.

S: 1 Ep. 8 Career Day (A Horror Podcast)

Fri, 07 Apr 2023 16:00:00 -0400

Send us a Text Message.

My work takes me to remote corners of the world, those named and inhabited by mankind, and some where man has yet to walk. Most find it surprising to know that maps and satellites have yet to document many places around the globe.

However, there is no need to visit these strange and exotic locales to experience dangerous, nightmarish creatures.

They are always close.

Sometimes they are too close.

In this episode, I will tell you about the worst kind of monster. It is one of teeth and rage, that finds pleasure in the death it leaves in its wake. It is a beast summoned accidentally, but the motive for its invitation does not matter. The results are always the same but this time the stakes are higher.

I’ve chased it into a school – where my own children are.

S: 1 Ep. 7 Dust Devils (A Horror Podcast)

The theory of the multiverse has become quite popular lately, not just in the realm of pop culture but in exacting fields of science as well. The more we learn about the universe and ourselves, the stranger and more likely it is that this existence is just one of many – but we already knew that deep inside, didn’t we?

The worlds we see in our dreams may not just be our minds painting pictures as we rest. They may very well be windows to real places that exist in the past, present, or future. While you consider this possibility, consider something far more terrifying. If these places are possible then so are the creatures that inhabit them.

Put simply, every nightmare you’ve had with monsters and creatures hungry for death may very well be waiting just on the other side of the line that divides this world from those.

It may not be “…just a dream…” after all.

In this episode of the recalling I want to show you how close we all are to being lost to those worlds and creatures every time we close our eyes.

S: 1 Ep: 6 A Whispering at Oak Manor (A Horror Podcast)

Fri, 10 Mar 2023 16:00:00 -0500

Send us a Text Message.

The gates at the entrance to my home serve as a physical divide between my private life and the world at large, it by no means keeps nightmares at bay.

In fact, some days, those creatures of teeth and shadows are welcomed inside – by my wife.

She cannot be blamed entirely, as she does not do it intentionally, but that does not change the fact that death can follow her whispers like birds tracking a trail of seed.

While my normal adventures into the mouth of folklore or the occult haunt my memories, it is far too personal to confront them in my own home where it is not only my life that is threatened to be snuffed out like a funeral candle, but those of my family as well.

It is a reminder that here is no safe place, not entirely. Even one’s own mind can harbor more than just an inner voice. It is also a warning that careless words falling from an unchecked tongue can set fires eager to engulf anyone close enough to burn.

S: 1 Ep: 5 Wealth After Death (A Horror Podcast)

Fri, 24 Feb 2023 16:00:00 -0500

It is a common misconception that what I do is my job, as in it is a means of income and sustaining myself and my family.

In truth, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Those who seek me do so at moments of desperation or joy, to share life’s many terrible or uplifting moments (which are sometimes blended as one) .

In either case, I would not take any offering even if it were to be offered.

I am lucky to have been free from the noose of earning, which slowly strangles many, and therefore free to assist the ones who need my assistance.

The blessing is not the wealth I have been given but that it has purchased me the time and freedom to do what I am meant to do – help others.

This is the story of how I came upon that wealth – the Recalling of a day during my youth that still stands as one of my most common and vivid nightmares.

S: 1 Ep: 4 The Thoughts We Think (A Horror Podcast)

Common ailments don't always have common causes.  Many times, symptoms overlap and nailing down a diagnosis becomes complicated - even when it seems simple.

This can be because we've forgotten truths we once knew and are worse off because of it.

As an example, consider migraines. It is a common, terrible affliction suffered by countless people. While our understanding of the causes and advancements in treatments should be applauded, we've forgotten that migraine isn't always a migraine and the other cause for the pain is something terrifying.

Here I recall one of the times I've dealt with the "other reasons", which made me consider the question - how do we know our thoughts are our own?

S: 1 Ep: 3 The Beast of Bohemia (A Horror Podcast)

Fri, 27 Jan 2023 21:00:00 -0500

History, especially human history, has many sharp edges we tend to file off and soften over time. We don't like facing the sins civilization is built upon. It is common for us to find graves where we want to place our modern world - and sometimes those whose graves we stumble upon aren't resting so soundly.

To illustrate this more succinctly, I recall the time I was called to the Czech Republic to attend to such a situation, where the past and present were not so cleanly divided and a history hoped to be forgotten still lingered in the shadows of the present.

It was at the former site of a Foundling home (Orphanage) where I was asked to seek out a dark, terrible creature that still lurked in the ruins. What I discovered was a haunting unlike anything I'd experienced until then. However, like many things, the devil was in the details.

S: 1 Ep: 2 Under the Bridge (A Horror Podcast)

Fri, 20 Jan 2023 13:00:00 -0500

If we exclude the creatures of folklore from our history, we are missing the whole story. It is true that as a species we have come to an unspoken agreement that those days are behind us, our beliefs and society are more advanced than to think such entities are real.

Yet, if we're honest with ourselves, we all know there's more truth to the stories than we admit.

In this episode of The Recalling, I tell the tale of my time in Ireland when I was asked to help with such an entity. You'll find few places in the world where the folklore of the past soaks into the fabric of today more than the Irish and Scottish landscapes.

Among the many creatures of the forests and fields is a particularly vicious variety that lives beneath remote bridges and abandoned barns. A creature who negotiates with riddles and devours those who are unable to decipher an answer.

S: 1 Ep: 1 Coffins for Christmas (A Horror Podcast)

Tue, 17 Jan 2023 13:00:00 -0500

When most see the lights and decorations that come along with the winter holidays, they think of gatherings with family and friends, food, songs, and the spirit the season ignites inside us.

I once did too. Now I can only think of death.

This is the recalling of the time I was stranded in Iceland during the Christmas season. A storm held me in a hostel with many strangers - most of them human.

For those of us who survived the horror of what happened during Christmas Eve, we would never see the season the same way again.

Presented in 3d audio.

Discretion (and headphones) are advised.
