Synopsis:

Lantern Theatre is a professional theatre company based out of Dana Point, California. Our theatre focuses on experimental, absurdist and post-structuralist works, with the mission of advancing theatre and developing new forms of storytelling for the stage. "City of Dana," our original, made-for-podcast, theatrical comedy series, features stories that take place at the intersection of science and art. The series provides us a chance to showcase various up-and-coming playwrights who share Lantern Theatre's artistic mission: reinventing theatre and expanding the limits of theatrical arts. Aside from our original productions, Lantern Theatre will also be highlighting works from the past, comedies and dramas that we feel are under-performed by other theatres.

"A Comedy of Moralities"

After Sarai's revelation in the park, the young gambling addict feels a renewed calling to atone for her sins, and more importantly, for the sins of her city, and she's prepared to risk everything: the farm, the city, even her own life.

"A Comedy of Moralities"

The mysterious Council of Pathetiques is suing Sarai Gehrood for every last pig on her late father's farm, forcing her to make a difficult decision: forfeit the riches her father left her, or betray her personal code of ethics and seek the wisdom of The Fox Den's Tuckerson, a philosopher of dubious reputation, who trains the youth of Dana Point to "summon proofs from the aether" and defend their wealth in Dana Point's socially progressive courts.

When Sarai, a gambling addict, is sued by The Council of Pathetiques, she must decide between forfeiting her riches and consulting Tuckerson, a local philosopher of dubious reputation. At the heart of "The Foxes," playwright Jordan Paul Sullivan asks the question: "In a world where absolute good and evil do not exist, where all morality is relative, how does one find a sense of purpose?"

"A Comedy of Realities"

Kathryn Elizabeth, a marine biologist, returns from an 18-hour long dive, suffering a serious case of “skin rot.” Li, an alternative scientist from Beijing, persuades the young marine biologist to sneak aboard the Brig Pilgrim, where they unexpectedly crash a children’s sleep-away camp  that’s taking place on the 19th-century tall ship. Once on board, Kathryn Elizabeth stumbles upon a lover from her past, and a marriage proposal from a man she hardly knows.

A Tony award-winning method actor by the name of John Davies has a reputation in town for his streak of never breaking character. Even when the theatre was burning, he kept the show going, and the audience remained in their seats, believing it was part of the act. For some reason, John Davies has agreed to take a one-off role as the Pilgrim's despotic first mate, Proompt. Suffice to say, the actor begins taking his role a bit too seriously. When he refuses to break character and promotes his own theatrical, fictional narrative, reality itself begins to change aboard the Brig Pilgrim.
