In episode 1, a marauder was discovered skulking around school grounds, and a team of rather lupine guards were dispatched to handle the situation. They dropped to all fours and ran like dogs into the forest. Shortly after that, there was a haunting scream, and everything returned to normal. TOO normal, if you ask Mr. Vermeil. He was told to drop the whole thing, and return to business as usual. Now, though, he finds himself hunted in his own home by a strange and electric force, and the mysteries of his workplace-- and the children who go there-- begin to unfurl. Tonight, I have a real treat to share with you! It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories; I’ve done several here on the channel already. I find that as I get older and revisit these stories, I appreciate them more and more, and find new things that delight and impress me each time I read them! I also find I can connect to the stories themselves more easily as my experience in the world grows. Allow me to set the stage for this story: A great and terrible disease—called the Red Death-- is sweeping across a medieval land. The prince of this land has decided that, rather than give aid of any kind, he would rather call up his closest…erm, 1000 friends, and wall all of them inside a secluded abbey. No one can get in, and no one can get out. There, they plan to party and wait it out, while the disease rages outside. All is well; the wine is flowing, the guests are dancing and mingling at an opulent masquerade ball, until a new guest arrives, dressed horribly as a victim of the Red Death. Our story opens as a young man takes a pause during his run down by the ocean.
As he decides to head back resume his routine, he meets 2 young ladies. They warn him to stay away from the water at low tide, because there have been many disappearances over the years as the tide has rolled out.
Of course, he dismisses their warning at first. But he quickly becomes a believer, when the first hand grabs his ankle from within the mud.

Tonight, instead of keeping you awake, I thought it might be nice to completely turn this thing on its head, and read you some sweet classic short stories by a fire! You may have heard these stories before, but if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat! First is the The Gift of the Magi, written by O’ Henry. It’s a humorous tale of the sacrifices we make for those we truly love. After that, we’ll hear one I discovered just this year: A Christmas Dream, written by Louisa M. Alcott. It’s the story of a little girl who comes to appreciate what she has and learns the wonder of giving to others through a fantastic dream on Christmas Eve, and a special surprise the following day. Finishing the collection, we’ll hear that familiar poem—A Visit from St.Nicholas, written by Clement Clarke Moore.
Usually I like to reappear after the stories for a final word, but tonight you’ll hear no more from me after this. After our stories, we shall hear a few hours of the sound of wind and snow outside the window, as we snuggle deeper under the blankets and sleep soundly. Before I go, I want to thank you for all your support this year—I’ve enjoyed reading your comments, and it’s my pleasure to entertain you. "You can’t just go strolling around Annedale, certainly not at night. It’s dangerous. For one thing, it attracts a constant rotation of the deeply unwell who are likely to attack on sight, if you’re lucky. They usually turn up in the halls come morning, although sometimes it’s just bits of them that I come across. Strips of skin floating on the brackish water that floods the basement stairwell, or bloodied fingernails embedded in the ceiling plaster. Weirdest one was a single tooth in a lightbulb, bloody gum still attached to the root, the glass all around it somehow intact..."

There were hundreds of bones, human and animal, all joined together to create a huge figure on a throne made of more bones. Skulls of small animals decorated the structure. A goat’s skull was fixed on top as a horrible head with dark hollow eyeholes. I peered in and saw Sean kneeling down at the firepit that was dug before it. A flame caroused inside the pit. I rip back the comforter and there, on his left arm, I see it.
His skin.
His human skin is melting. It’s literally dripping, puddling, soaking the sheets.
Beneath the liquefying skin is a horror I’d never imagined. It’s clear, like freshly-made ice cubes, and I can see the ghosts of his muscles twitching, his veins pulsing and the blood inside them quickening. A patch of skin near his elbow shrinks away like an accelerated film of thawing lake ice.
