Synopsis:

The Hogtown Experience is an innovative theatre company dedicated to telling compelling stories with an immersive "You are there" approach. Our first Podcast is a 4 episode audio drama called THE RIOT AT CHRISTIE PITS. Based on real events, it tells the story of a series of brazen anti-semitic acts that took place in Toronto in 1933, six years before the start of the Second World War. THE CHRISTIE PITS RIOT features original music from Canada's own Measha Bruegergossman, and we are thrilled to announce that THE RIOT will be the first of many audio immersive stories yet to come.

The Hogtown Experience is an innovative theatre company dedicated to telling compelling stories with an immersive "You are there" approach. Our first Podcast is a 6-episode audio drama called THE RIOT AT CHRISTIE PITS. Based on real events, it tells the story of a series of brazen anti-semtic acts that took place in Toronto in 1933, six years before the start of the Second World War. On August 16, a gang of neo-Nazi supporters unveiled a giant swastika flag at the conclusion of a baseball game featuring many Jewish players. The resulting riot lasted several hours, and involved hundreds of citizens across the city. Our explosive story is told from the perspective of a Yosef, a 12-year-old Jewish boy, as he makes his way through the old neighborhood, from back alleys and storefronts to the scene of the crime - the Christie Pits ballpark itself. This was the final act, and the final straw, that finally pushed the Jews, Italians and many other newly-arrived immigrants to stand up to their racist oppressors. Toronto "The Good" lost its innocence, and the event forced all Canadians to confront the ugly truth contained within its borders. The Riot changed the face of the city forever. It is a story of innocence lost and experience gained; and of hope and redemption. THE RIOT AT CHRISTIE PITS features original music from Canada's own Measha Bruegergossman, and we are thrilled to announce that THE RIOT will be the first of many audio immersive stories yet to come.
