Awakened at 3 AM to identify a corpse, Private Eye John Loathing attempts to solve a murder, locate a priceless artifact that's been missing for centuries, and sell it to the highest bidder. It’s the least he can do, and Loathing generally does the least he can do.
John is pursued through Space Station bogey by mob bosses, goons, and a mysterious alien Themme Fatale.
“The Ebony Egg” loosely parodies “The Maltese Falcon” and was originally published as a short story in the Science Fiction anthology “Unidentified Funny Objects 7.”
