Select All Delete (Part One)

Fri, 12 Jul 2024 16:00:00 -0700

An episode so big we split it in two! Select All Delete begins the final run of episodes in our marathon Season Four! We're looking at all things synthetic; Cybernetic health assistants, digital afterlives, surveillance states in a fascist dystopia AND tonight's segment - the gig-economy hellscape that is cyberpunk Seattle.

Seattle 2059: And None of Us Saints, features the return of writer A.V. Eichenbaum to the void as they weave a tale of Leo Price, a gig-worker just eeking by on the margins of cyberpunk society. When an old acquaintance offers them a lucrative courier mission, Leo finds themselves embroiled in a high stakes game of moral intrigue, AI sentience, and a fascist police force with itchy trigger fingers.

Featuring the voices of Chad Sommerville, Monica Domena, Matthew Rush, Mike Gilson, and Andrew Shanks + music by Zara and CLaudio.

We also got our music guest, ManWoMan, offering up a deliciously dark synth pop that perfectly matches our dystopia of choice.

We'll be back Monday, July 15th with more tales of sythetica at large. Until then, see you in the void!

Staring At The Sun

Eichenbaum makes their Ugly Radio debut with, 'Life at The Yellow House', a chosen home for wayward souls that holds equal parts beauty, whimsy and menace. We've got music by Seattle singer songwriter, Kate Dinsmore as our guest this episode and some more original compositions by CLaudio. Featuring Voices of the Void ensemble members Sarah Rose Nottingham, Alexandria Stevens, Maddy Nibble, Chad Sommerville and Lyam White.

The Banality of Eldritch Horror

Fri, 18 Nov 2022 11:00:00 -0800

A terrifying creature has arrived in a simple township causing numerous fatalities, property damage and a never ending sense of dread among the townsfolk. What is the city council to do??? In tonight's episode, we bring a scathing satire of municipal madness in "The Banality of Eldritch Horror" written by Aaron J Shay and performed by Monica Domena. Orginial music and soundtrack by CLaudio! Aaron J Shay pulls double duty this week as our music guest with "Eldritch Forces" and Sleepy Eyes of Death returns with "Metal On My Breath".  What will become of the township? Can the occultists banish the creature from this dimension? What of the growing restlessness among the citizens? What of the town square and the many permits that went invalid due to sudden GIANT tentacle monster inhabiting it? Who will speak for the permits??

Aaron J Shay's music can be found at https://aaronjshay.bandcamp.com/album/apocalypse-songs.

We get biblical in this one. Join us as Season Three continues with Butch Alice making their Ugly Radio debut! Fri, 24 Jun 2022 18:00:00 -0700

Welcome Back To The Void! It's Season 3 and we've got concerns! Like, what's up with those weird memories that keep flashing before my eyes? What's up with up weird egg in the break room? Why is there a void forming behind the noodle machine? Why is everyone speaking in eldritch tongues?? Oh well, as long as it doesn't get in the way of my union-standard smoke break. Tonight, we have "To Whom It May Concern" written by series creator Andrew Shanks, performed by Jordan-Michael Whidbey, Sarah Rose Nottingham and Maddy Nibble with original music by Theodore Shapiro and CLaudio.

The Distance Between

Sat, 27 Nov 2021 18:00:00 -0800

On Tonight's Episode: We're nearing the end of Season 2! As most of us are smack dab in the middle of the holiday traveling season, we wanted to tell a couple yarns about the road not taken. The void that awaits us at the end of the journey. The longing once the destination has been reached. On "The Distance Between" we have two stories, two music guests, and too many leftovers to take home with us.

Amy Escobar returns to The Ugly Radio with a heartbreaking tale of loss in "Void Me Under the Moon", performed by Alissa Cattabriga. Then, in part two of the Kareem Saga, "Darien Alexander returns to continue the tale of Kareem Howard (last featured in our episode "We Lost the Sea") and his travels across time and space. After years abroad though, what awaits him back home? "Kareem of Earth" is performed by Jesse Smith and Andrew Shanks with original music by CLaudio.

Our music guest tonight is a doozy! Dogwood stops by to perform "Persephone" off their album, 'Persephone Is Dead, Long Live Persephone'. Stream now on bandcamp at https://dogwood.bandcamp.com/

We've also got original music by kohm with "I Can't Imagine Us" off his album, 'Moss Covered Soul'! You can find them on Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp.

We're back and we missed you so much! With this episode, The Ugly Radio is ushering in a new format for the rest of the year. This will be an easier workload for us, more consistent release dates for the pod, and more Ugly Radio for you. That's right, we'll be releasing new episodes weekly/bi-weekly through the end of 2021. To start off the Halloween season, we've got Jane-Rebecca Cannarella's absurd ghost story about a dead cynic/burnout who now haunts a local Wawa sandwich machine. Expertly performed by Zenaida Smith, "The Ghost in the Sandwich Machine" will make you think twice about where you get your late-night munchies. Origin of Frequency

Fri, 18 Dec 2020 18:00:00 -0800

It’s our season finale! Six episodes! 30+ featured artists and musicians! Not a bad opening salvo if we say so ourselves. Well, we’re sending off season one in style with three new pieces tackling the notion of “sound in space” and the grand gesture of a message in a bottle.

In tonight’s episode: a lonely teenager tackles the void head-on in our titled segment, written by Maddy Nibble and unknowncitizen. An aging entitled rockstar tries to influence his way into the greatest mixtape ever made in “The Sounds of Earth Vol 1”, performed by Monica Domena, Shane Regan, Chad Somerville and Mike Gilson.  The final hours of legendary blues musician, Blind Willie Johnson, is brought to light in our featured segment, “Per Aspera” written by Darien Alexander - performed by Jordan-Michael Whidbey and Lisa Clarke. Last but not least, we have kohm performing “Wilting Cosmos” to send us off into the void proper. It’s the end of season one, with BIG BIG things on the horizon for this lil frequency! Tune in. Join us. Welcome to the Void.

Your Head Is A Haunted House

Fri, 30 Oct 2020 18:00:00 -0700

It's our first Halloween Special here in the Void! And much like the sugary confections one fills a cotton-blended pillow case with, tonight's episode is a proverbial grab bag of haunted delights. We've got five brand new frequencies to score your Halloween weekend with. Some new faces, returning favorites and, as always, the looming foreboding dread of our haunted pasts and unknowable futures. Fun! Tonight we present you: a trio of trick or treaters who find themselves the victims of local lore ('Apples', written by Andrew Shanks); a gonzo-fueled night of cannibalistic desires ('The Locus of Locusts No More', written by Barracuda Guarisco); a mourning couple and some vengeful house decor ('Smother', written by Maggie Lee); A kafkaesque apartment story ('The Duvet Will Never Be Clean', written by Bret Fetzer) and some thirsty gothic whimsy to close us out ('The Curse of Wolf Hollow', written by Kelleen Conway Blanchard).

Our voice ensemble this episode is Paris Arrowsmith, Laura Lee Caudill, Monica Domena, Skyler Gahley, Mandy Rose Nichols, Sarah Rose Nottingham, Shane Regan, Chad Sommerville, Alexandria Stevens and Lyam White.

Tonight’s music performance provided by kohm! Their album, Moss Covered Soul is available now on Spotify and Apple Music.

Stay safe this Halloween, and we'll see you in the void.

Her Symbol Is The Sickle

Fri, 09 Oct 2020 17:00:00 -0700

"Sometimes we cannot just will things to move... we have to sever something."

We're doing things a little different for tonight's episode by featuring one writer, one actor and one musical guest. So we thought we'd bring out the big guns for this. Tonight features a cosmic rumination about a family's past and present, written by Amy Escobar ('Scary Mary and The Nightmares Nine') and performed by Seattle favorite Pilar O'Connell. How far do we go to investigate our own past? What truths do we regret to discover? What little deaths do we witness along the way? What are we willing to sever to make peace with the past? Also featuring the brand new song, "Low", from Lauren Freman ('The Devil and Sarah Blackwater').

"All Watched Over By Machines (of loving grace)"

Sat, 12 Sep 2020 18:00:00 -0700

Tonight's episode is about being under the watchful eye of others. How our actions are seen and controlled by others we trust to have our best interests at heart. What happens when that trust is taken advantage of or completely thrown out the window? What if it's by entities not even human? You know that ole saying about staring into the abyss?

Our host this episode, ALEXIS, finds herself drawn to acting outside of her protocol. Seattle favorite, Marcus Gorman brings us a terrifying escape from a suburban nightmare. Darrin Schultz takes us through a guided mediation that may have more in common with the Summersisle than finding nirvana. Plus, we've got music guests kohm and Cool Flowers! Featuring the voice talents of MaryKate Moran, Skyler Gahley, Mike Gilson, Skye Stephenson, Monica Domena, Lauren Freman, Sophie Schwartz and Andrew Shanks.

Keep your eyes open, travelers, and don't worry about the bees...

CW: Tonight's episode features depictions of gore, intense sequences of sound, abrupt noises and bees.

The Ballad of Laika

Fri, 24 Jul 2020 18:00:00 -0700

"She was in orbit for 22 days... plenty of time to leave a ghost."

On this episode, we take a look at the soviet space program. Our host, a cosmonaut named Yuri (no, not that one), contemplates his 108 day mission in orbit as he prepares to come home. Yuri must keep a level head though as strange sounds coming from outside the capsule threaten the entire mission. Also featuring, a wonderful short piece by Maggie Lee about dogs, tennis balls, and the cosmic existential joke of life's purpose. Fun! With musical guests Cosmozoa and kohm! Featuring the voices of Cody Smith, Sarah Rose Nottingham, Alexandria Stevens, Jordan-Michael Whidbey, and Lisa Viertel.
