Hexcrawl 86 - Conquering the Direlord's Halls

Gemwin leads Jhank, Bors, Grom, Hokan, and a host of NPC dwarves up into the Halls of the Longbeards in the hope of destroying the Direlord Tribe once and for all. They encounter immediate resistance and have to fight foot-by-foot against orcs, goblins, worgs, and two enormous trolls, with Jhank and Gemwin at the front and Korrin Ironaxe and Grom close behind. Korrin falls in battle, ripped in half by a troll, leaving Gemwin or Jhank as the most likely leaders of the dwarves in Runedarth. They confront the demonic Direlord Wartsnak and his fiendish tanarruk bodyguard in the throne room, where Jhank is charmed and Gemwin gets knocked unconscious, before they turn the tide and near victory. At the last moment, the Direlord escapes by a portal, but the territory that his clan occupied is now in the hands of the dwarves, who discover the treasures they left behind.
Hexcrawl 85 - Runedarth Battle against the Direlord Hordes

Grom leads Gemwin, Jhank, Bors, and Hokan, along with a few archers, to invade the territory of the Direlord tribe and take back the halls of Galloglar and Yund for Dwarven glory! They get into a mega-battle against dozens of goblins, orcs, and a couple of ogres, almost dying again and again. After a short rest, they clean out the remaining humanoids and secure the stairway against further incursion by the Direlord tribe.
Hexcrawl 84 - Runedarth Exploration of the Lower Levels

Hokan, a new dwarf rogue shows up at the Runedarth dwarfhold ruins and leads Jhank, Gemwin, Bors, and Grom in search of treasure in the Halls of Hammers and Mead and the Halls of Hammered Stone sublevels, where they encounter gricks and darkmantles. Then they charge up the back stairs into Direlord Tribe territory and slaughter a room of goblins and multiple rooms of orcs, setting the stage for a large-scale assault on Direlord territory. This episode is extra-raucous with lots of loud laughter!
Hexcrawl 83 - Runedarth Portals and Pools

Jhank leads Gemwin, Bors, and Grom down to the lowest level of Runedarth - The Halls of Hammers and Mead, where they examine a pillar of sealed portals and then proceed into the Hall of the Pool. There, after defeating the gargoyles who dwell there, Jhank experiments with the controls to a large fountain to try to shut off the corrupt water flowing out of the mountain. They are able to get clean water flowing, then go down to explore the access tunnels to the cisterns and find one with clean water and another with corrupt water. They also explore a little bit of the Halls of Hammered Stone level, finding a route from the pool room to an exterior entrance.

Artvirious leads Lysander, Sir Parrik, and Flip into the Feywild to find the missing treant druid Shrubritney. There, the servants of the Dewdrop Man take umbrage with the way the kingdom of Upperthorn is building up industry near the Southwood. Floki's heritage as a descendant of the green dragon Mornagauth is also a source of tension for the archfey, and he is confronted with an ultimatum.
Hexcrawl 81 - Clearing the Temple Level and Yellow Musk Creeper Battle

Grom leads Gemwin, Bors, and Hjalmar to explore and re-take the Temple of Mordinsamman in Runedarth. They battle a yellow musk creeper and its zombies, during which both Hjalmar and Bors are slain and implanted with foul plant seeds. Through Moradin's grace, Bors is saved, but Hjalmar is gone forever and only narrowly avoids reanimating as a zombie. Exploring the temple areas, the party finds a unique guardian and explores the top of the mountain, discovering another entrance possibly associated with the necromantic Cult of the Dragon. They also discover a curious statue with an acrid green teardrop. Dropping back down to the Halls of Gallowglar and Yund, they explore part of the disputed level and battle a patrol of the Direlord Tribe.

Dwarf paladin Gemwin Stonefist leads a large expedition of dwarven adventurers and soldiers through the hills and Greypeak Mountains in search of the ruined dwarfhold of Runedarth! With him are forge cleric Bors McCraw, rune knight Jhank Wildpass, and new ranger Hjalmar Heavyhand (with life cleric Grom and his porter Dhosus along as NPCs). They encounter peaceful ettercaps with woolspider livestock, discover some griffon nests and a mysterious grotto cave (unexplored) and the Sapphire Falls along a fork of the Greyflow River. At the ruins of Runedarth, they make contact with Korrin Ironaxe and the dwarves already there, and set about securing a foothold in the dungeon for their troops. The party mows down an orc/goblin patrol and discovers two magical rune circles with beneficial powers. They stay in the dungeon with the goal of retaking the entire dwarfhold for the glory of all dwarves!
Hexcrawl 79 - Elvish Ruins Redcap Battle, Magic Fountain, and Kuo-Toa Shrine

Flip takes over as leader for Za Za Hounddog Jenkins, Grom, Lysander, and new dragonborn monk Kathar Videro, who seems very interested in Flip. They have a tricky battle in a narrow hallway with some vicious redcaps - Za Za goes to death saves four separate times. They all drink from a strange magical fountain and Flip becomes wiser. Za Za almost drowns after finding his way through a flooded passage. The group discovers a kuo-toa shrine (Oop! Ooop!) and fights a few of them, then recovers some treasure including a Deck of Illusions before fleeing the kuo-toa reinforcements. Za Za is given to the nixie Kallista to nurse back to health and serve her for a year, and the rest of the party makes it to civilization in Rickety Bridge. Mike reads a letter received by Gemwin that promises adventure near Axeholm next time...
Hexcrawl 78 - Forest Spider Battle and Elvish Temple Ruins

Lysander the satyr bard leads a low-level mess-around with dwarf life cleric Grom, goblin rogue ZaZa "Hounddog" Jenkins and new feytouched wild sorcerer Flip - they set off to find some recently discovered elf temple ruins near the burgeoning town of Rickety Bridge. We try out our new poker-chip travel system, and Lysander and the crew have trouble locating the ruins. In the night, Lysander is attacked by spiders (again) and it goes badly. Grom and his trusty porter charge in on their dwarven battle-goats and narrowly save the other characters from becoming spider food. Before dawn that same night, ZaZa gets charmed by the nixie Kallista who wants him to serve her for a year. He promises to return after they explore the ruins, which they finally discover. ZaZa triggers a trap, they encounter the cold-cursed and sorrowful elf Quoemin who makes Flip sad, and battle some boggles in a tight room. The party barricades themselves in an apparently safe room and STAYS IN THE DUNGEON for next time...
Hexcrawl 77 - The Barrow Warrior and Search for the Turquoise Kobolds

Artvirous and Mikmek deal with the collapse of the Bullywug tribe and save a few remnant teams. Joined by Bariq and Render, they journey to investigate the nearby barrow that has been haunting Arty's dreams. They strike a deal with the undead warrior there, abduct a nearby human warrior who meets certain conditions, and sacrifice him in order to bring the barrow warrior back to life in order to free him from undeath forever. This involves single combat with Arty, who narrowly survives the ordeal, but the barrow is cleansed! Then the party decides to seek out the Turquoise Kobolds to find a new home for Mikmek's koboldwug gremlin children. Along the way they meet the Chicken Slingers and agree to finance them building a chicken farm nearby, and they hear about some nearby gnomes. Mikmek meets Rotom, leader of the Turquoise, who requests help killing the nearby gnomes and destroying their Smokemobile. Mikmek joins the tribe and his children run amok in the new kobold stronghold.

Hexcrawl 76 - Venture to the Cave of Evil

Render leads Jhank, Bariq, Za Za Hounddog, and new satyr bard Lysander from the Golem Workshops south to a rumored "Cave of Evil". After discovering warning signs placed there by the Prophet of the Tor, the party triggers an explosive Glyph of Warding, then tasks shield guardian M.I.C.H.A.E.L. with triggering a several more while they watch from a safer distance. They make their way into a tomb complex apparently made for several heroes, and Jhank is careful not to desecrate the space. They discover a large room with a rotating bridge and a strange storeroom. After a brief battle with some gargoyles, they withdraw from the dungeon, promising to return and discover its secrets another time.

New bugbear rogue Malak leads Neville, VS, Grom, and Sigurd on a new attempt to steal the Stone of Chibharo (aka Stone of Controlling Earth Elementals) from the Baneite temple in Llorkh. After various attempts at using Locate Object, the crew take to the sewers, where they discover some interesting chambers, a thief named Melzak the Mouth stranded in a cage, and a large cistern defended by a hungry Otyugh! Things look grim for a bit there but they manage to pull through and steal not only the Stone, but several thousand in gold and a few other magical treasures. They almost kill the thief in a cage, but in the end they let Melzak the Mouth live like they heroes they are!
Hexcrawl 74 - Llorkh Heist on the Temple of Bane

New rat-shifter spore druid VS joins new firbolg warlock Tharivol and new dwarf life cleric Gorm, along with returning human hotelier/warlock Neville in another Llorkh caper - this time, the Miner's Cooperative is allying with the local wererats to go after a Stone of Controlling Earth Elementals that the Church of Bane has in its temple. They come up with a plan to minimize casualties, case the joint, and infiltrate by night. Killing a few guards in the process, they escape with the stone and several other magic items, only to discover that the stone is a fake. Now the Church of Bane is tearing the town apart looking for the thieves, so the party has to lay low and come up with another plan to go back in and get the real dingus.
Hexcrawl 73 - Return to Bullywug Village and the Bloody Mist of Golem Workshops

STEVEN III leads Render, Jhank, Bariq, and new goblin messenger Hounddog from the Golem Workshop underneath the (now-dead) cyclops Harpilos' house in search of the control amulet to the shield guardian known as MICHAEL (Mechanical Incident Control Hazardous Area Exploration Lifeform). The amulet once belonged to Caradoc, STEVEN's creator, and he is hoping to find out what he can about it, but unfortunately it seems to be where Caradoc died, namely at the bottom of a pool in the middle of the Bullywug Village. The bullywugs, led by King Lenny and the shaman Rebel Sue, think that they recently caused major flooding in the lower Thorn River valley, leading to the collapse of the domain there. STEVEN and crew face hungry refugees, make several plans then go off script anyway, try to align with the skirmishers led by Darvin Dundragon against the Bullywug leadership, but also try to prevent a genocide, all while trying to recover the amulet. Hounddog finds a sequined glove that he interprets as an omen, Bariq executes a plan to recover the actual amulet, STEVEN assassinates the top Bullywug leadership to avoid wider bloodshed, and things mostly work out, unless you're King Lenny or fan-favorite Prince Bodean. After getting the amulet, the party and MICHAEL face off against a bloodsucking mist in the summoning chamber of the golem workshop and against an unhappy wraith that has been causing problems. That facility is now all cleared except for the persistent steam mephit problem.
Hexcrawl 72 - Total Party Kill

Young bugbear paladin Roff leads Rasprax, Simple Jack, Cassius, and Swift Current to hunt down the goblin necromancer Chetiin, who recently caused an undead outbreak in the Upperthorn Domain. Despite some bad weather, they discover the hideout in a series of caves, and while battling some undead, one zombie flees to raise the alarm. Swift Current pursues and is the first to fall to the necromancer's magic. As the others start to flee, Chetiin repositions to the entrance cave, and cuts down Rasprax, Cassius and Simple Jack. Roff tries to flee a different way but is killed by skeletons. An attempt is made to recover the bodies before they are lost forever, but Chetiin grows stronger with the raised zombies of this party of PCs, setting the stage for a new direction in the campaign.
Hexcrawl 71: Cyclops Battle and Abandoned Mine

Render leads Jhank, Arty, and Swift Current in an epic battle against cyclops cousins Harpalos and Palados, who have finally decided to rid the world of the deceitful guests under Harpalos' house. Palados throws a couple of giant ticks into the mix, Jhank gets big, Arty and Swift move all over the map, and Render mostly shoots from afar until Harpalos closes to him and starts wailing on him. Eventually the adventurers turn the tide and destroy the cyclops cousins, taking Harpalos' home and several magical items as loot! They decide to explore a nearby hex and encounter a strange abandoned mine with a bizarre inhabitant known as Moon Crab who controls a magical machine called the Cimmerian Device. They help Moon Crab back to his home in Hidden Lake and check on the dwarves there, who seem to have gotten even stranger since anyone spoke to them.
Hexcrawl 70: Body Switch, Bulette Battle, and Return to Olegs

Rasprax leads Jorgrim, Swift Current, some pikemen and skirmishers, and two new adventurers - feytouched human sorcerer John Doe/Simple Jack and dwarven forge cleric Bors McCraw - out of the Drow Caves and towards the trading post known as Oleg's where the whole campaign began, carting a wagon full of tin ingots to sell. Along the way the discover a bulette lair, stop at a local vineyard to buy a keg of fine Melshimber wine, and happen across a magical fey-well that causes Jorgrim and Simple Jack to switch bodies. They are attacked by an angry bulette that kills half their soldiers, then meet the ettin BorisChorus who relieves them of their new wine and escorts them to the rock outcrop known as the Horned Titan. Camping there, they are beset by giant ants, who agree to take some of their supplies in exchange for peace. At Oleg's, now renamed Zas Gor, they discover a thriving Zhent operation with a stone fort and palisaded trading area. They sell their tin to shady tobacco merchant Brooks Hyland and investigate the defenses of the fortification.
Hexcrawl 69 - Snow Scorpions, Deadly Thorns, and Barrow Wights

Jhank leads Gemwin, Cassius, and STEVEN III on an exploratory expedition out of Axeholm, where they discover the dangers of Snow Scorpion Crevasse, the cruel Thorny Hills, a grotto cave home to crag cats, a griffon nest, a votive shrine to the water goddess Eldath, some barrow wight mounds, the polluted quarry, and the stirge-infested sinkhole, ending in the town of Llorkh, where the crew join up with the spellcasters of the Manticore's Muse.
Hexcrawl 68 - Sigurd's Search for Ivar

The Llorkh spellcasters Cassius and Kain are joined by War Cleric Sigurd, who is looking for his lost friend Ivar, taken prisoner by the Zhents. With Sigurd leading the way, they cut a deal with Winget Sparrow of the Black Network for some information, then find a drug dealer named Chuka who knows the way to Lost Hope Prison up in the mountains. They encounter kobolds, the stone giant Hazbarg, centaurs, and the cyclops Palidos, who relieves them of a mule. At the prison, they don't manage to get past the security to find and rescue Ivar, so that will have to be a future quest. On the journey back they stop in and visit the Axeholm dwarves.

Arty leads Jorgrim, Bariq, MikMek, and Swift Current back into the giants' lair, where they detour into a forge haunted by undead dwarves, who life drain everyone and drop Jorgrim with mummy rot! They retreat back into the open air, then regroup and come back again the following day to take on the remaining giants. A mine cart is used as a diversion and the group descends by rope and stairway to take on a hill giant and verbeeg. All the former captive miners have been slain by the giants, but luckily there's some treasure at the bottom of the mine, including a magical battleaxe that MikMek reluctantly accepts.

Jorgrim leads MikMek, Bariq, Arty and Swift Current to a mine near Lowerthorn territory rumored to have Ettins keeping humans as slaves. Once there, Swift Current wakes a sleeping ogre by trying to steal his chain and a huge, multi-level, all out battle occurs. Several giants are killed and several PCs go down but the lead giants escape - the party resolves to get reinforcements and conquer the site once and for all!
Hexcrawl 65 - Retaking Axeholm

Dwarven paladin Gemwin leads Render, S.T.E.V.E.N. III, Roff, and the survivors of New Ammarindar as they retake the dwarven hold of Axeholm. Roff shows how a very big bugbear fits into a small arrow slit. In the throne room, Gemwin is attacked by a licklash ghoul and other undead start to pour into the room, but the dwarven priests of Dumathoin summon their Spirit Guardians and destroy the unclean ghouls. Upstairs, the party runs into two spectral elf banshees that cause them some problems, but luckily the two warforged artificers are immune to the wailing effect. Gemwin begins to make plans to settle the dwarves here and start New New Ammarindar...
Hexcrawl 64 - The Dwarven Rescue

Jhank leads Render, new warforged artificer S.T.E.V.E.N. Mk III, new bugbear paladin Roff, and new dwarven paladin Gemwin (yes, that's three new PCs) on an expedition into the Greypeak Mountains to save the survivors of the fall of New Ammarindar, who are sheltering at some abandoned goliath caves. Once there, they decide to look for the abandoned dwarfhold of Axeholme as a possible new start to the elusive dream of a dwarven domain in the harsh Greypeaks.
Hexcrawl 63 - Stirges, Cyclopean Ruins, Death by Panther, and Spellcasters Gone Wild

Elior leads Kain and Neville out into the wilderness near Llorkh, where they get attacked by stirges, find the Red Wizard Tharidun Mirza excavating some mysterious Netherese ruins with a zombie crew that includes the body of their dead friend Zimevos, then they run out of food in the hills. Foraging separately, Elior is attacked and killed by a panther. His friends find the body and are then joined by young goliath barbarian Bron, who explores several nearby hexes with the spellcasters (and narrowly survives a leucrotta attack) before getting back to Llorkh. Over in Upperthorn, Swift Current goes as emissary to the Bignose Goblins, and Mike contemplates his next moves to save New Ammarindar and send an expedition north into the ruins of Orlbar.
Hexcrawl 62 - The Madness of King Lenny, Frog Wrasslin, and the Lonely Barrow

Artvirous leads Caradoc, MikMek, and Bariq to destroy the bullywug village but they get taken before King Lenny who declares that Arty is his long-lost son and possible heir. Prince Bodean goads Arty into swimming down into a froghemoth lair, where Arty and Bariq get swallowed whole and MikMek and Caradoc get captured by its tentacles. By the end, Caradoc and Arty are dead but Bariq, barely brought back from the brink by MikMek, revivifies Arty. Stephen II, Caradoc's Steel Defender, runs away with Caradoc's body while Arty and Bodean get into a frog-wrasslin' match. Mikmek agrees to get changed into a bullywug but the ceremony goes sideways and he ends up with a couple of mutations instead, but still gets a bullywug mate. Arty and the remaining crew then explore a nearby tomb, where some treasure is found including a magical sword that is not as full of hate as the last one was.

Sir Parrik leads Bariq, Caradoc, and Arty to deal with a cursed place centered on a standing stone near his domain of Lowerthorn. They demolish the menhir only to find that the effect persists - digging down they discover that there is a malevolent sword there thirsty for blood and looking for a new wielder. Bariq tries to Identify the sword but falls prey to it and tries to murder his friends! They try to restrain him while Arty tries to get the sword safely away to the Dead Magic Zone about thirty miles away.
Hexcrawl 60 - Hunting the Green Daggers

Kain leads Neville, Rustle, and new arcane cleric Cassius on a hunt for the assassins who nearly killed Jahan at the Miners Cooperative warehouse a few weeks ago. They talk to a reporter, get denied entrance to a gambling hall, give a poison sample to an herbalist, and hatch a plot to bring the assailants out into the open. This results in a chaotic street battle, and the party leaves town for a few days to get Jahan to safety. The plan changes slightly and the Black Cats take over Jahan's security, while the party heads back to find the gang known as the Green Daggers. In the Green Dagger hideout, Kain gets drained by a stirge, Neville has a memory of a former self, Rustle kills some dogs, Cassius springs a trap, and a hostage situation ends in bloodshed. The party retreats and the gang's leaders escape... for now!
Hexcrawl 59 - Deadly Warehouse Collapse and Smuggling the Skull of Larqa

In Llorkh, Rustle Ironbottom accepts a job from Winget Sparrow of the Black Network to protect his boss Jahan during a meeting with the Miner's Cooperative at a shady warehouse. Rustle, Neville, Zim, and Kain make plans to protect their VIP and try to find a Sleep scroll. On the evening of the meet, things go well until a hit squad shows up and kills the miners, then throws poison and shoots arrows at Jahan. The party is caught between deadly archers and unknown shady figures in the warehouse and gets into a tricky spot, while Neville makes his way outside and around to try to rescue them with the wagon. Suddenly the building itself collapses and the trapped wizards and their protectee Jahan are all crushed in the rubble! In a dramatic set of death saves, all players get to their fifth and final round - Zim perishes while Kain and Rustle pull through. Before the city guard can arrive, Neville loads all the bodies in the wagon and they make their way to Winget, who takes posession of Zim's corpse and one of the hostiles, and Jahan decides its time to take that out of town promotion he's been considering. A few days later, the party accepts a job from Gunther Strojny of the Miners Cooperative to smuggle the goliath skull they previously stole to a waiting goliath warrior, but Rustle has awful dreams where he is haunted by the dead shaman's skull and cannot rest properly, leading to exhaustion and near death.
Hexcrawl 58 - The Goliath Skull Heist and Nazariel Exfiltration

Elior takes the lead in Llorkh, where he accepts a job from Gunther Strojny of the Miners Cooperative to recover a magical goliath skull from the Zhents. This involves a young Zhent wizard, Skylar Nazariel, who knows where the skull is held and wants to get out of town. With the help of Kain, Zim, and Neville, Elior plans the heist and also colludes with the local goliath street gang to smuggle some gems out of town. Nazariel is rescued (and her death is faked), the skull is stolen from the basement of Vince Mustachio's house, and the crew gets the gems to the fence at Oleg's trading post, returning with a cargo of copper ore (and paying hefty bribes both directions).

A new party of 1st-level spellcasters heads east towards Llorkh, led by warlock Neville Cavendish. On the way, they fight twig blights, get chased by an ogre, get extorted by some Zhent thugs, and get their horses eaten by a manticore. Upon reaching Llorkh, they go looking for a good place to set up shop and they end up purchasing a rundown inn which they rename the Manticore's Muse.

On the way there they encounter some bandits, a bear, a crag cat, some giant snakes, and a few curious settlers, and they borrow some skirmishers from the village of Perfection. Once there, they interrogate a bugbear and formulate an ambush, which almost goes as planned, but the giant's evil eyes and the wicked blades of its redcap companions are a vicious threat and not every party member will survive the battle.
Hexcrawl 55 - Incyzor Attacks and Return to the Maze of Moradin

Dwarven death cleric Thronor leads Jhank, Artvirous, Jorgrim, and Swift Current to try and secure the hexes where the Maze of Moradin and Moradin's Forge are located, but they are attacked by the fang dragon Incyzor, who downs Jhank while everyone else scrambles for cover! Some quick thinking saves Jhank's life and the party explores looking for all the ways in to the Maze of Moradin. They explore the cave of giant bats and encounter the rust myconids, then try another way in the hopes of finding where the drow raiding parties are coming from. They conduct reconnaissance on a drow outpost and make plans to counter this threat to their nearby domains.

Caradoc leads Thronor, MikMek, Render, and new kobold warlock Saurod set out to handle the remaining problems at the Golem Workshop under the house of the cyclops Harpalos. This goes terribly awry when the wraith who haunts the creepy mist observation room life-drains Saurod in a single hit. Thronor drives away the wraith but then animates Saurod as a zombie, much to his cousin MikMek's dismay. Arty joins the party as Caradoc and MikMek crawl into some steam tunnels and encounter several mephits there but eventually have to back out without defeating them. The party returns to the surface and shares treasure with Harpalos and discusses whether to build him a new home somewhere else or murder him. Leaving the problems in the golem workshop unsolved, they head west, encountering the dryad Leshanna in her grove and discussing a nearby hex with religious pilgrims. Crossing the Thorn River, they run into a storm that causes them to waste a day taking shelter. On the other side, they encounter a tree cult and sacrifice the zombie Saurod to the twisted dryad there. They track a tatzylwyrm and get into a scrap with some competitive hunters, killing their leader and scattering the others. They find and kill the tatzylwyrm and save its head, fulfilling a quest from one of the very first sessions of the campaign! Exploring further, they get into another battle with some dark fey meenlocks who have taken over a former lumber camp.

They find an enormous bubble protected by arcane traps and considered to be the property of Sh'derra D'zeer, the amethyst dragon who claims the lakebed as her own. They go to investigate rumors that the Wererats of the Hark are building canals and stop to attack a depressed hill giant along the way.
Hexcrawl 51 - The Golem-Maker's Workshop Under the House of Harpalos

Render the warforged artificer leads Jhank, Caradoc, Eaglebane, and Bariq to explore the ruined workshops and laboratories underneath the house of the cyclops Harpalos. On the way there they have a run-in with the stone giant Kuljarn, meet some goliath shepherds, and see evidence of ettins in the area. Harpalos welcomes them into his home and allows them in his basement on condition of bringing him back treasure. The party quickly gets entangled with a guardian wood golem, finds an enchanted oil vat and explores the ruins. A password found in the ruins allows them to avoid combat with the kitchen golems, and they find a strange viewing room haunted by a wraith. Eaglebane causes it to flee and they backtrack to explore another wing, where they once again get into a scrap with one of the guardian constructs. They send Caradoc down a privy to look for gold and find a wall safe that they can't quite crack. Big plans are made to restore the ruins to some of their former glory if they can either convince Harpalos to let them stay or, y'know, murder him...
Hexcrawl 50 - Rescuing MikMek from Razorvine Ruins (and House Rules Discussion)

When word reaches the higher-level characters in the western forest that MikMek was petrified in the Razorvine Ruins, wildfire druid Bariq leads Artvirous the lizardfolk ranger, Jhank the dwarven rune knight, and Jorgrim the gnome druid back eastward to try to rescue him. Along the way they encounter a hostage situation with some bandits, which they resolve with a combination of cunning and violence. At the Giant Skunk Hunting Lodge they exchange Jorgrim for the warforged artificer Render and make their way up to the basilisk-infested ruins. Relying on Jhank and Arty's blindsight capabilities, they try to take on the basilisks without getting anyone else turned to stone. However, the ruins hold a few other surprises including a gelatinous cube and a minotaur skeleton. MikMek is rescued and turned back from a statue into a kobold and the ruins are cleared of hostile creatures so that the Lowerthorn domain can try to expand here. Post-game, we have a discussion about some of our house rule systems and whether it would be worthwhile to try to publish them for other gaming groups to enjoy.
Hexcrawl 49 - Basilisk Battle and Exploring the Southwood

Continuing their exploration of the Razorvine Ruins, kobold rogue Mikmek leads dwarf paladin Riswynn Ruby-Eye, goliath cleric/rogue Eaglebane, warforged artificer Render and dragonborn rogue/monk Swift Current deeper into the ruined fort. Things go terribly awry when Mikmek opens a door onto a basilisk and fails both petrification saves, getting turned to stone. The party tries to drag him back through the hallway but Riswynn gets bitten by the basilisk's poisonous bite and other basilisks are drawn to the commotion. Eaglebane, Render, and Swift flee for the exit and head to the nearby hunting lodge, leaving Mikmek a statue and Riswynn unconscious and left for dead! Riswynn manages to escape some hours later and makes her way alone through the wilderness, but Mikmek's fate is uncertain. Switching gears, dwarven anthropologist warrior Jhank leads OG party members Bariq, Artvirous, Caradoc, and gnome druid Jorgim on a grand exploration into the Southwood. They discover an elvish tomb near the source of the Skunk River, a forest fort controlled by earth elementals, the source of another river flowing east (which Jhank names the Jhank River), some territorial shambling mounds, and the nearly intact ruins of an artificer's workshop. Caradoc, an artificer himself, wants to stay here and study what he can of the library of bizarre contraptions and constructs.

Swift Currrent, a tabaxi rogue/monk reincarnated as a dragonborn, leads kobold rogue Mikmek, goliath rogue/cleric Eaglebane, warforged artificer Render, and new dwarven paladin Riswynn Ruby-Eye in search of some ruins along the Thorn River. Along the way they encounter a leucrotta ambush, some tricky fey boggarts, and a grove of reveling satyrs before arriving in the razorvine-infested ruins. There are some suspiciously lifelike statues there, and as the party begins to explore their fears are realized as they are attacked by several stone-cursed and a basilisk! As several of their party members become petrified, the remaining crew must figure out how to help them and still escape with their lives.

The party absails in and starts to explore but ends up in a dangerous battle with a roper and the barghest! Eventually the baddies are defeated and some treasure is gained from Darkwizard, who is glad his goblin minions can now live without fear of a demonic barghest in their midst.

Atrvirous leads Bariq, Balifra, Swift, Jorgrim, and Oneiros against the Corpse Flower that has taken over the former Sootscale Caverns complex. They take it on in its zombie-filled lair and cleanse the caverns of its foul stench forever. They leave the skirmisher teams called Lyas Lions there to begin converting it into a base, and the party travels to the Altar of Nomog-Geaya, where they battle goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears led by a hobgoblin holy man called Fenic. Diplomacy unexpectedly breaks out when Fenic threatens to unleash the hordes of Urshani hobgoblins upon the nascent Lowerthorn domain, and a tenuous accord is reached, which includes Oneiros taking on a bugbear henchman.
Hexcrawl 45 - Feywild: Mother Wormwood Battle

Oneiros joins the party in the Feywild and leads Swift, Floki, Mikmek, Jorgrim, and Barriq against the evil archfey hag Mother Wormwood! It quickly turns into a battle on three fronts when a shambling mound and some redcaps join the hag's side. Both sides Entangle each other and after taking out the redcaps Oneiros gets polymorphed into a beached whale! Floki gets engulfed by the shambling mound and the other heroes start to fall prey to the hag's wicked claws. Mikmek keeps shooting from cover, Jorgrim unleashes ball lightning from his Ring of Stars, Bariq lights her up with Moonbeam, and Oneiros pops back into tiefling shape and starts putting the hurt on. After downing most of the party Mother Wormwood is finally taken out, and we start rolling bizarre changes and mutations for those who died in the Feywild - Barriq gets meaty hooves and penalties away from solid ground, Floki gets cat claws, MikMek can Speak with Dead once a day, and Swift the Tabaxi is reincarnated as a dwarf much to John's chagrin. They search through Loomlurch and find some pretty weird hag treasures, then pop back into their own plane, where delayed death saves take the lives of Swift and Mikmek. Swift is reincarnated for the second time this evening by Shrubritney, this time into white dragonborn form, and Mikmek is taken to Loudwater to be raised.
Hexcrawl 44 - Feywild: Assault on Loomlurch

Jorgrim leads Bariq, MikMek, Swift, and Floki into the Feywild to find Mother Wormwood's lair! They come across strange tracks, find some mourning blink dogs, and make their way to the fallen-log site of Loomlurch where Mother Wormwood aka Skabatha aka Granny Nightshade is said to dwell. They meet an interesting goblin and split the party when the hag comes out to investigate. Floki is captured, Bariq explores in lizard form, Swift does what rogues do best, and Mikmek and Jorgrim (as a raccoon) all take different tactics. Eventually they're mostly united and come up with a plan to distract the hag and save their friend. They start a fire and battle a green dragon wyrmling to rescue Floki and DarkWizard, who's also a captive here. What will happen when the hag comes back from the fire to find her kitchen is a warzone?
Hexcrawl 43 - Battle for the Drow Caves

Rasprax leads Floki, MikMek, Fjori, Oneiros, and new warforged PC Render to a complicated cave system where drow have been raiding from. After MikMek tangles with some scouts, Rasprax sends in a small army of bandits and cultists by the main entrance while the party sneaks in a side water entrance. Epic tabletop battle ensues - we had a huge 5-elevation tile setup going and it was a blast. In the end almost all the bandits and cultists died but so did all the drow, so Rasprax is planning to set up his own criminal enterprise here as a covert arm of the PCs' domains.
Hexcrawl 42 - Stilt Village and Return to Sootscale Caverns

We discuss our domain management house rules, then Mikmek leads Arty, Rasprax, Jorgrim, and Oneiros to find out what's been happening with the fey plants at Sootscale Caverns. On the way they investigate the village on stilts, where MikMek gets taken out by a phase spider and has to be rescued. At the caverns, they discover things have gone very bad indeed. The kobolds have been changed into some kind of plant people! The party fights some vines and then ends up in a sustained combat with regenerating plant kobolds, where leader MikMek is again sidelined (this time by myconid spores). Eventually they clear the room only to discover that the final chamber of the caverns has a powerful undead-making corpse flower!

Fjori leads Barriq, Artvirous, Jorgrim, and dwarven Justiciar Balifra Brightblade down from Haela's Halls to the goblin circus / shrine / lair at the Altar of Nomog-Geaya. They're accompanied by dwarven troops and looking to stop raids by the goblins on their fortress. After falling prey to several goblin pranks and traps, they descend into the temple level with its labyrinths and crypts in search of Rockfire the Magnificent, the goblin in charge. After a few skirmishes, they encounter Rockfire and he turns into a barghest! Battle ensues!
Hexcrawl 40 - Butchered in the House of Githaleon

Emerging from the Feywild, Sly Zib Uppercut takes command of Oneiros, Swift Current, Rasprax, and Jorgrim. They first bury Chaz (who died from his Feywild wounds) and then set about trying to discover just where they are. They question the local cat and begin to explore the ruins of an old mansion, but in the basement Sly Zib gets almost killed by some green slime from the ceiling. As another ooze attacks, everyone starts heading for the stairs. Sly, Rasprax, and Jorgrim make it topside but Oneiros and Swift Current can't resist opening the last door and discover a new area guarded by a clay construct like a terra-cotta hoplite. Things go downhill quickly - Swift is first to fall, Oneiros deals out a huge amount of damage but then likewise collapses. Jorgrim goes into a rage as a dire wolf while Rasprax shoots from afar, while Sly is stuck topside because he's now giant-sized and ready to plug the stairs with a nearby boulder. Jorgrim falls, but not before reviving Swift, then Rasprax and Sly likewise get taken down. Left alone and heavily wounded with the machine that has downed the entire party, Swift must choose whether to escape with his life or attempt one last desperate attack.
Hexcrawl 39 - Moongrave's Eclipse

Jorgrim leads Rasprax, Chaz, Oneiros, Swift Current, and Sly Zib Uppercut as they infiltrate the hag Moongrave's fortress / theater in the Feywild realm of Yon. The group poses as a troupe of entertainers and puts on a mostly improvised tragedy, then explores the fortress looking for a lost elf who can help cause a false eclipse that will help bring about the hag's downfall. A plan is hatched and the eclipse causes chaos to erupt, during which Sly Zib is affected by mummy rot and falls to his apparent doom. Moongrave nearly escapes on a flying ornithopter but Chaz jumps after her from a balcony and she dies in the fall past the false eclipse. Several captives are freed, and the party gets a bit of treasure and comes through a mirror portal back into their own world, where Chaz dies from his previous wounds in the Feywild. Hexcrawl 38 - The Feywild is Full of Sidequests!

Teifling barbarian Oneiros takes over as caller in the Feywild, leading Rasprax, Chaz, Jorgrim, Swift Current, and Sly Zib on a series of cascading sidequests! First, they cross the river to find the outlaw Will of the Feywild, who recommends they go seek a Unicorn for advice. High-voiced oil can Squirt joins the party and provides consistent comic relief. They eventually find the unicorn's pool and get some answers from her, but the plot keeps thickening and soon they are headed over to another part of the Feywild called Yon, where they help a goblin child with a kite problem and get involved in finding a secret tunnel down in a mine. The Feywild proves to be full of surprises! (includes Wild Beyond the Witchlight content)
Hexcrawl 37 - Death in the Feywild

Half-drow warlock Rasprax leads Sly Zib, Chaz, Jorgrim, new tabaxi rogue Swift Current and new barbarian Oneiros on an adventure to find out what's happening in the Feywild. They make their way from the Stone Circle to the feywild portal leading into The Night Garden (see episode 02!). After Sly Zib is charmed by a dryad, he is knocked unconscious by Rasprax to keep him from wandering off. When he and Rasprax come to blows a second time, a second critical hit with the Staff of the Adder renders Sly Zib dead, but it turns out that strange things happen to dead goblins in the Feywild, and Sly Zib Uppercut splits into his good and bad selves, only one of which will rejoin the party. As the group explores and tries to find out more about the mysterious Mother Wormwood, they come upon a situation with a tree, some pixies, and some polymorphed Redcaps that turns into a battle. Chaz is stomped dead by one of the redcaps, and the party has to get creative to deal with the threat. Apparently strange things sometimes happen when halflings die in the Feywild too, because Chaz manages to come back as a gnome! Rather than try to rejoin their native plane, this group decides to stay in the Feywild and continue their quest to discover Mother Wormwood's lair.
Hexcrawl 36 - Conquering Haela's Halls

Dwarf warrior Fjori leads Barriq, Jhank, Artvirous, and Benji to retake a dwarven fortress in the hills that is infested with trolls. On the way there, they discover a hidden valley with many ostriches. Barriq scouts in as a fox but runs into troll trouble, barely escaping back to the party. In a nighttime assault on the fortress, they end up in combat with an evil treant and a troll on a battlement, which causes some difficulty as it keeps pushing them back down the wall. Barriq uses his fire-based abilities to keep the trolls from regenerating and Jhank manages to put the treant into a stupor, allowing everyone to get on the roof to deal with it. Afterwards, two more trolls show up and the battle begins anew. After the trolls are all vanquished the party discovers a group of mercenaries from a rival power there and decides to hire them for now rather than killing them. Treasure and dwarven ghosts guard the lower levels of the fortress, which Fjori plans to oversee as his new abode.
Hexcrawl 35 - Gorya's Funeral, Mountain Journey, and Sootscale Visit

Jhank leads Floki, Thronor, Sir Parrik, Benji and Caradoc as they invite Yulia Bronzevow and Nastasia Tinspike for a peace summit and Gorya's funeral. Thereafter, the party sets out through the mountains towards Sootscale Caverns, discovering a windy agate mine and a stone circle used by Talos druids along the way. They are attacked by owlbears and gnolls, but make their way to the kobold caverns where they discover that strange fey-related plants are being used by the Sootscales and the problem is probably getting worse.
Hexcrawl 34 - The Maze of Moradin and the Ravings of Gorya Bronzevow

Gnome trickster Floki Flanfloom leads Jhank, Thronor, Sir Parrik, Caradoc, and Benji to discover what's become of the missing dwarven monk Gorya Bronzevow, who disappeared into a labyrinth within the mountains. Aboveground, his wife Yulia and former mistress Nastasia each lead a faction of the Order of the Burning Forge and conflict simmers between them as each blames the other for Gorya's assumed death. Floki and the adventurers enter the Maze of Moradin looking for the truth, where they encounter bizarre rust myconids and cultish half-mechanical mazefolk, and awaken a raving mad Gorya who is seeking the lost library of Xothol by transforming himself into a metal monstrosity. At a stone bridge over lava, they fight fiery bats and a gargoyle who guards a secret map to the library. Ultimately the party decides Gorya is a danger to their plans and disposes of him in a dramatic manner. They discover a magical forge with the heart of a star and converse with a clingy undead mechanic before making their way back to the surface where they will have to deal with the rest of the dwarves and the consequences of Gorya's death.
Hexcrawl 33 - Search for the Lost Temple of the Forest

Guided by a vision shown to him by the unicorn goddess Lurue, Sir Parrik leads MikMek, Artvirous, Benji, Caradoc, and Rasprax on an exploration of the northeastern Southwood in search of a lost temple in the forest. Along the way they encounter some giant wasps, several gruesome scenes of dead trappers, and converse with the local fey. Mikmek gets in some trouble for trapping and killing a baby bear, but feels vindicated the following day when they encounter and fight a much larger bear who guards the temple site. When the bear is slain, he turns out to be a cursed priest and the temple site begins to regain some of its lost glory.
Hexcrawl 32 - Leaving the Ship, Pod Plant Battle, and Across the Moorland

Benji the Bard leads Thronor, Jorgrim, Jhank, and Sly Zib as they try to figure out what the crystal DarkWizard wants so much actually does. They travel toward the hunting lodge and find the mud bowl with mushrooms that the Old Beldame talked about, but unfortunately it's got a bodytaker plant and some pod people, so combat ensues in which Sly Zib almost gets consumed by the plant several times. After harvesting the remaining mushrooms, they continue through the moors and find some rusty crow cages, a dwarven watchtower with evidence of troll habitation, a hellwasp pretending to be a child, and a new fortified farmstead run by the Church of Chauntea. They meet up with Umgurn at the Giant Skunk Hunting Lodge and identify the crystal as a source of planar portal power, which complicates the question of whether to give it to DarkWizard since Jhank says "It belongs in a museum!"
Hexcrawl 31 - Lost in the Greypeaks, Bloody Trapper Camp and the Ship on the Cliff

Thronor the dwarven death-cleric leads gnome druid Jorgrim, dwarven rune knight Jhank, halfling artificer Caradoc, and new human bard Benji south from the Temple of Dumathoin in search of the Adder River and the ship on a cliff seen by the DarkWizard in his vision. They visit Karg the Manticore in the ruins of the fire giant sorcerer's tower, get lost in the mountains, Thronor gets bitten by a snake, and Jorgrim explores a cave in giant centipede form. They battle some wolves, discover a trapper camp with a bloody secret cave, find the winter caves of the Uthgardt, and eventually catch sight of the mysterious ship. There they battle some undead lead by a deathlok and discover the crystal that DarkWizard is searching for, along with a pile of treasure. They decide to camp there for a bit so this same crew will pick up next time with Benji as caller.

Eaglebane leads MikMek and new bard Benji into the northeastern portion of the Southwood, where they hunt an elk, find several disturbing sets of trees, and battle some skeletons. They infiltrate a trapper camp, discover a drow cave, and discover that the Bignose Goblins are occupying the ruins of Eldergrove village. Benji writes several songs about their exploits and performs Elvis songs for the goblins. Benji almost decides to stay with some nixies in their spa but opts for the adventuring life instead.
Hexcrawl 29 - Lost in the Woods and DarkWizard's Tower

Fjori (dwarf fighter) leads Chaz (halfling monk), Bariq (fire genasi druid), Eaglebane (goliath fighter), and Sir Parrik (fairy paladin) to try to find the mysterious DarkWizard and take away his magical glasses, but along they way they have some trouble. They visit with some dwarf prospectors, get driven off by an angry farmer, and get a bit turned around in the woods. They come across a goblin village with an emaciated woman named 'Iron Liz' strung up between trees who tells their fortunes, and they get lost again in the misty Southwood. Eventually they find DarkWizard's waterfall-adjacent tower and converse for hours about the arcane science of optics and his study of the nearby Fey Anomaly. He tries to send them on a quest to a faraway ship on a cliff for a crystal he needs, which they vaguely promise to get around to eventually. On the way back, they discover a cave with inscriptions shedding additional light on the mysterious fey known only as the Dewdrop Man.
Hexcrawl 28 - The Dangers of Highstar Lake

Jhank, Sly Zib Uppercut, and Sir Parrik take their keelboat on an exploration of the eastern portion of Highstar Lake, where they first discover a swamp witch who mainly just wants to be left alone. She warns them of several dangers but offers a quest for some magical mushrooms away up a river to the northeast. They begin to explore the northern coastline and one of their sailors is lost in the night to a vicious bear attack. They eventually spot the river she referred to but are chased away from it by a hydra. The boat is attacked by a giant gar which swallows another sailor whole and tries to eat the blink dog Glint, but a combination of Sly Zib crashing the boat into it, Jhank charming it and then attacking it while enlarged, and Sir Parrik diving into it lance-first finishes off the beast and they tow its enormous carcass back to the fort to provide copious food and a cool looking skull. On foot, they explore north into the forest and save the wagons of some gnome explorers, who sell them an expensive map to a place called the Cave of Beauty.
Hexcrawl 27 - Ankheg Tragedy and the Dragon Barrow

Floki leads Caradoc, Jorgrim, and new halfling monk Chaz to go investigate the disappearance of dwarven monk leader Gorya Bronzevow, but on the way there, they stop to eradicate the growing ankheg problem at the Old Sycamore. Tragedy strikes as the mama ankheg burrows right up to Floki and crits on him, one-shotting him into unconsciousness, and finishing the job with its mandibles. Their leader fallen, the rest of the group scrambles to defeat the ankhegs. They divert to take Floki's body to the Temple of Dumathoin, where Umgurn drains the temple treasury to set out for Secomber to get him raised. Now joined by Eaglebane, they explore northward, encountering some giant lizards and a friendly centaur named Neigh-than, as well as the Zhentarim adventurers and their goblin allies. The party discovers an old Uthgardt cairn and a dragon-shaped barrow. Inside the barrow, Caradoc awakens a loyal skeletal horse and gets attacked by a will-o-wisp. The party flees back to the surface where the wisp is defeated, and they take the road back to Oleg's Trading Post where it all began.
Hexcrawl 26 - The Worg Monastery

Sir Parrik leads Barriq, Jhank, and Arty northeast from the Dungeon of the Hark to clean out a monastery inhabited by Worgs. They discover that the worgs are cursed former monks of Auril, cruel goddess of the cold, and the pack's leader Gazrith gives them safe passage into the undercrypt to try to break the curse. In the crypt they fight ghouls led by a wight and a coldlight walker and battle the magical crystal that keeps the curse intact. A magical cloak and staff are recovered, along with some coins and other treasure. Having freed the worgs from their curse, the party of course decides to slaughter them anyway. Gazrith the winter wolf and several worgs fall in the ensuing conflict, but some of the pack escapes into the Southwood to harass the party another day. They clear giant wasps from the belltower and turn the monastery over to the Hark in exchange for a copy of his map of the surrounding area.
Hexcrawl 25 - Westward to the Dungeon of the Hark

Barriq leads Jhank, Parrik, and Fjori westward, following new all-star NPC Conrad toward a mysterious settlement of mysterious inhabitants that everyone knows are wererats. On the way, there is trouble with a mad hermit and his cat, a trail is blazed through a peat bog and a hidden glen of hardwoods, a dragon graveyard is discovered, and many new hexes are sighted and explored. Bariq is attacked on watch several times, and almost dragged into the Underdark by some troglodytes. Arriving at the Dungeon of the Hark, there is some disagreement about quarantine, what's meant by disease or affliction, and the wererats finally reveal themselves. Bariq wants to slaughter them, Jhank wants to befriend them, and Parrik and Fjori mainly just want to avoid getting lycanthropy. The party decides to remain there over the next several weeks to get to know their new neighbors better.
Hexcrawl 24 - Ankhegs and Kegs, Bulletes and Brewmonks

Under Wellby's Command, Jorgrim and Eaglebane depart the farmstead with a troop of laborers and skirmishers to discover the mystery of an abandoned village. They are attacked by a fierce ankheg, which burrows up in the night to attack their camp. Once the village is cleared, they are again attacked, this time by an even more terrifying burrower, a bulette! Now the abandoned village is even more ruined, but the three companions journey north and discover the tree village of the Bignose goblin tribe, where they ask for help attacking the Black Dog Brewery. After a visit to the nearby stone face for oracular advice, the goblins agree and a haphazard plan is hatched. During the combat at the brewery, Wellby breathes his last as the necromancer and wig afficionado Losser Mirklav drains the life from him, but Losser and his shadow mastiff are at last defeated and the brewery restored to the proper worship of Urogalan.

Hexcrawl 22 - The Temple of Dumathoin

Fjori leads Thronor and Artvirious into the wintry mountains to explore the hidden ruins of the Temple of Dumathoin! They encounter cursed Azer and a very mean Otyugh who nearly devours Thronor despite his piety towards the undesecrated tombs of the dwarven priests. Treasure is recovered and Thronor decides to make the temple the fourth Resources & Teams site managed by the party! With a bit of time left in the session, we switch characters and Caradoc takes new adventurers Eaglebane and Rasprax under his wing to battle a giant badger and rescue a thylacine from a pit.

Jorgrim leads Caradoc, Mikmek, and Arty downriver to scout out the route to the Stag Lord's Keep! Mikmek's fondest wish is granted by a wishing well and he is reunited with ClipClop the Pony. The party encounters a cyclops woodworker who inhabits ruins with strange wooden golems and who makes a pretty good goat curry. Mikmek stays on there and fresh-faced halfling monk Wellby Goodbarrel takes his place in the party. After some razorvine along the river, the party is attacked in the night by a dreadful chimera! Downriver, they discover a hunting lodge infested with giant skunks with a dreadful painting inside, and are attacked by ice toads who try to pull them from their boats. The Stag Lord's Keep is sighted from afar and the group retreats upriver to plan their next move.
Hexcrawl 19 - Return to the Ammarindar Outpost

The fates of Bariq and Sir Parrik (and Floki's body) are resolved, after which Thronor leads Jhank, Umgurn, and Artvirous first to the Order of the Burning Forge's monastery, where they hope to collect their armor from the dwarves. The dwarves refuse to let them in and send them away empty-handed, much to Arty's annoyance. Then, after wishing they had a bridge to cross the Thorn River near the farmstead, the party journeys up near the Stone Circle to retrieve the Uthgardt tribesmen before continuing on to the Ammarindar outpost in the eastern Southwood, where they previously fought a black pudding and a wight with the help of some ex-bandits. The bandits have now become undead and there is a troubling sphere of magical darkness with the former bandit leader hiding in it, as well as another black pudding that drops both Thronor and Jhank, damaging their armors in the process. However, a treasure room is discovered and some clues to the location of the Halls of the Hammer are revealed, so the party grabs as much coinage as they can carry and returns to the farmstead, with plans to spend most of it on improvements to their two bases. Bonus: at the end, there's a section where the spirit of Floki encounters the spiritless fire giant body of Jontoff the Bearer!
Hexcrawl 18 - Fire Giant Ruins and the Trouble with One-Way Portals

Jhank leads Fjori, Floki, Bariq, and Sir Parrik back to the Fire Giant Sorcerer's tower where Karg the Manticore lives. Along the way, some cave bears are fought and the tactics of tree climbing are discussed. At the ruins, a strange set of mirrors and some food and drink are discovered. Bariq embraces his chaotic side and manages to send himself body and soul through a one-way portal to a purple desert place. The blink dog Glint and Sir Parrik both follow in an attempt to rescue him, but become trapped on the other side as well. Floki's body (but not his soul) also gets sent through the portal and is not able to return. Discovering a second such magical portal, they attempt to send themselves back to the fire giant's ruins but instead end up at the Zigurrat of the Abyss in the Ixzan realm of Malydren in the Underdark; their fates remain unresolved. Back in the fire giant ruins, Fjori and Jhank discover a hoard of treasure which they load up and depart with; Floki's soul remains at the ruins in hopes of reuniting with his body or discovering some new body to possess.
Hexcrawl 17 - Wyvern Battle and Lost in the Mountains

Caradoc leads Sir Parrik, MikMek and Bariq into the Graypeak Mountains in search of the fire giant sorcerer's ruined tower and Karg the manticore, but they are attacked by a wyvern in the night and struggle to drive it off as it keeps driving a poison-filled stinger into them! They end up lost in the mountains and discover the entrance to a hidden shrine of Dumathoin. A new Gray Render is found and bonds with Caradoc, and the party makes it back as far as the Hidden Lake Delve.
Hexcrawl 16 - A Classic Gnome and Goblin Level 1 Mess-around

With most of the players absent this session, new adventurers Jorgrim (forest gnome druid) and Sly Zib Uppercut (goblin boxer) encounter a giant wasp and some Talos-worshiping weasels before they come across the farmstead and join the adventuring crew. Sent out on a low-priority test to prove their worth, they range far and wide, exhausting themselves looking for the lost goblin Snoutscout, coming to the Dark Wizard's tower and the Altar of Nomog-Geaya before heading up to the Black Dog Brewery. At every stage, Sly Zib gets in boxing fights and mostly loses but still spreads his fame far and wide, and Jorgrim meets many interesting beasts he mostly befriends and plans to wildshape into later.
Hexcrawl 15 - The Duergar Hunt

Arty leads Umgurn, Thronor, and Caradoc into the Greypeak Mountains to hunt duergar for the Order of the Burning Forge! The gray dwarves prove elusive, but some advice from a local manticore puts them back on track. The duergar are found and ambushed and their giant vinegroon whipscorpion mounts are captured to be retrained! Plans are made to expand the homestead.
Hexcrawl 14 - Necrobrewers of Urogalan, Tuskgutter, and an Ammarindar Outpost

Thronor leads Umgurn, Fjori, Floki, and Jhank 'northlefterly' to investigate the Black Dog Brewery, which is run by shady halfling necromancer Losser Mirklav (formerly of Waterdeep) and a bunch of necromonks of Urogalan. He won't show them the brewing operation itself presumably because there are some undead involved, but the party leaves them in peace. They travel north to find the lair of the giant boar Tuskgutter and make fairly quick work of it, then transport most of the giant pig back to the farmstead. Setting out for the Southwood once more, they make for the ruins of an outpost of Ammarindar they've seen in the forest, only to find that the trees are blackened and dead nearby. The Dewdrop Man gives Thronor some advice and some boggards try to raid the camp. The party befriends some ex-bandits of the Stag Lord living in part of the ruins and together they open the locked doors, first to a black pudding that nearly kills several party members, then to zombies, skeletons, and a dwarven priest turned wight! Leaving part of the ruins for another time, they split the loot they've found with the bandits and head for home.
Hexcrawl 13 - Three Adventurers in a Boat, Altar of Nomog-Geaya, Haela's Halls, and Floki's New Pet

Umgurn, Floki, and MikMek take to the water in a recently recovered rowboat to explore down the Thorn River! They find a wyvern's nest, some disused iron mines, some giant sundews, and stop to explore some ruins connected to local hobgoblins. In the Altar of Nomog-Geaya, they discover a large painting of hobgoblins causing mayhem and they get attacked by a ghoul. Umgurn gets paralyzed and decides maybe that's enough delving in that ruin, so they head to a nearby area with a lost dwarven outpost. After crossing the chasm and getting to the gatehouse, Umgurn waxes historical about Haela Brightaxe and they encounter a dwarven ghost who wants their help getting rid of his troll problem. The party promises to return in greater numbers and heads back to the river, where they meet some dwarven prospectors. They explore further downstream past Sootscale Caverns and portage around the Devil's Cauldron, then stop at the confluence of the Elk River and decide to follow that upstream. Some abnormally hot silver mines are discovered and a strange beast is encountered, who quickly bonds to Floki, but whether that's a blessing or a curse remains to be seen!
Hexcrawl 12 - Night of the Will-o'-wisps

After a bluebook recap, discussion of leveling, and consideration of which armors to ask the Order of the Burning Forge for in exchange for the Hidden Lake Delve, the party sets out to explore the area west of the farmstead near the Thorn River. Jhank leads Barriq, Floki, Sir Parrik, and Caradoc to a spot where a mysterious circle of dead birds turns out to be evidence of an invisible floating tower occupied by Marchwardens of Arvoreen. Nearby, a goblin work crew lead by Snoutscout is trying to mine iron ore for their dark wizard master, and a farm is being terrorized at night by will-o'-wisps. Taking on the wisps that night, Floki defies death several times, but others aren't so lucky. In a close battle, the wisps are eventually defeated but both Jhank and Sir Parrik have their life forces drained by the wisps and die. The party makes plans to send them with Thronor to the town of Secomber with some of the Hidden Delve treasure to have them raised.
Hexcrawl 11 - Clearing the Gnolls from the Hidden Lake Delve

Caradoc leads Arty, Jhank, and Thronor back to the Hidden Lake Delve to clear it of gnolls once and for all! The party is ambushed by undead witherlings and then takes on the rest of the pack in the market hall, where Caradoc and Jhank both go down in battle and only Arty's Wall of Fog gives the party a fighting chance! A huge pile of loot is discovered including adamantine weapons and armor and heavy coffers full of coins! After stashing everything by the iron front door that Jhank installed, the party explores the bronzework facility and clears the undead dwarf skeletons after discovering how to shut off the steam. The possible Rooms and Teams aspects of the facility are discussed and then the party travels to join the other adventurers at the formerly raided farmstead that has become a de facto headquarters.
Hexcrawl 10 - A Pile of Gnolls and the Dewdrop Man's Quest

Floki leads Sir Parrik and Fjori against the gnolls who have overtaken Eldergrove, and a nighttime battle ensues! Additional gnolls are picked off by guerilla warfare and Young Norbert is tracked to the Feywild Portal. The group travels down to the Raided Farmstead and encounters a child zombie on the way. The zombie farmstead is dealt with and burned and evidence is discovered that the Church of Shar was somehow involved. Fjori meets a playful young griffon in the night, and then the group explores west of the Thorn River the following day. An unusual fey is encountered with an unusual request: he'd like his failed warlock taken NE of Oleg's and delivered to the Abyssal Outpost, where he will be traded for a troop of berserkers and tribal warriors. Sir Parrik accepts the quest and they head that direction, encountering bizarre weather along the way as the Drewdrop Man reminds them of their oath. On the northern side of the Delimbyr River for the first time, Floki encounters the bones of his draconic ancestor Mornagauth, slain by the fang dragon Incyzor and some druids of Talos. At the Abyssal Outpost, the trade is made with a friendly Babau demon and then the small army makes its way back to the Dewdrop Man for delivery. By the end of 14 days of adventuring, the party is back at the Raided Farmstead just in time for the hirelings they sent for to arrive!
Hexcrawl 09 - Return to Hidden Lake Delve

Umgurn leads Thronor, Jhank, Caradoc, and Arty back to the Hidden Lake Delve to take on the gnolls that have now infested it! After a big battle with giant hyenas and a few gnolls, Jhank gets a magic battleaxe and the party retreats to the surface for a short rest; then heads back in to explore the side passages. The underwater course of the Shrike River is found on one side, and the other is a dwarven workshop complex with a loud repeating sound. After finding and befriending a guardian construct and finding several arbitrage loads worth of metals, the party finds the source of the sound: a steam-filled hammermill room with dwarven skeletons; yipes! Lots of falling on slippery floors, but they manage to defeat the undead and retreat back to the surface once more. Jhank puts a locked iron door from his Robe of Useful Items in place to keep the gnolls in while the party retreats back to the safety of Sootscale Caverns, killing a giant owl along the way. The Eldergrove group heads back to Oleg's and meets some Bignose Goblins near the trading post. Plans are made to renovate the Raided Farmstead.
Hexcrawl 08 - The Hidden Lake Dungeon

Thronor leads Umgurn, MikMek, and Arty northeast of the Sootscale Caverns to the edge of the Graypeak Mountains in search of dwarven ruins of Ammarindar! They run into trouble with a bear! MikMek gets lowered down a ventilation shaft and sees a moving room. That night, there's more trouble with a territorial cyclops who nearly one-shots Thronor. A hidden lake is discovered and with it a hidden door! A sealed and deserted dwarf ruin is explored, including richly appointed tombs that Thronor and Umgurn won't let anyone disturb. When they return to the surface, they find a band of gnolls feasting on ClipClop and Baeshra the pack horse! Salvaging what they can (but without all their coins the gnolls stole), the party returns back to Sootscale Caverns, discovering Shrike Falls along the way.
Hexcrawl 07 - Expedition to the Sootscale Caverns

Kobold MikMek guides Arty, Caradoc, and newcomer dwarf cleric brothers Umgurn and Thronor towards the Sootscale Caverns. Along the way, Caradoc has a run-in with a wild basilisk but manages to escape. They come in contact with an undead bridgekeeper and promise to throw the Stag Lord's corpse into the Shrike River so the bridgekeeper can be put to rest. They visit the hidden shrine of Kurtulmak, where MikMek's cousin Tuklak Kurtulmak Dragon Mighty Bone lives in hiding since evil shaman Tartuk displaced him. At the caverns, the demon idol is returned to Chief Sootscale and smashed on the ground. Everyone turns on Tartuk but in an abbreviated combat, Tartuk escapes to cause problems for the PCs later. Feasting and celebrations ensue and the party finds a nearby bridge and the fangberry thicket Bokken wanted them to harvest. All in all, they are occupied for 13 days and will start next session at the Sootscale Caverns.
Hexcrawl 06 - Splitting the Party part 1: After the Bandits

Some new secondary characters are introduced and Jhank, Barriq, Sir Parrik, Floki, and Fiori set out to regain the bandits' stolen gold and take vengeance on them. They track the new set of bandits back to their camp at the Thorn River and exterminate them, with both Parrik and Jhank using their special mounts to great effect, while newcomers Fiori and Floki attack from the edges. Some of the furs are recovered along with additional treasure and things stolen from Eldergrove Village. The party then heads down to the raided farmstead for more of their cached loot, only to find gnolls have been there. But luckily the cache is intact and it gets loaded onto the wain and Floki's cart for transport back to Oleg's.
Hexcrawl 05 - Raided Farmstead and the Old Sycamore

After a quick bluebook review, Caradoc takes over as caller and the party heads southwest to look for the Sootscale kobolds, but instead they find a farmstead the kobolds have raided and a magic mouth gives them a kobold-related quest! A cache of furs and other goods is discovered that the farmers had hidden. Overnight, Arty hears kobold yipping and goes to investigate, and comes back with a pair of emaciated kobolds who had been tied to a tree and tortured by mites. After a rough interrogation where one kobold dies, the party decides to 'help' the remaining kobold by having him lead them to the Old Sycamore tree where the mites lair. Everyone who can fit down the dirty burrow goes in and the mites and their giant centipede and tick pets are destroyed and the demonic kobold idol they had taken recovered, along with kobold warrior MikMek, who agrees to accompany the party back to the Uthgardt camp for a couple of weeks to earn back the idol.
Hexcrawl 04: Taking out the Thorn River Bandit Camp

While Caradoc stays behind to work on some smithing, Arty leads the rest of the party southwest to find the bandit camp that's been causing trouble. After some exploration, Arty goes full crocodile in the water to scout the place out and the party returns at dusk for an attack! Parrick continues his signature move of impaling baddies on his lance, Jhank sets up overwatch with his crossbow, Barriq lights things on fire and causes chaos, and Arty charges out of the water to attack with his glaive! After vanquishing the brigands, a survivor is tracked down and interrogated, some of the bandits' loot and a boat is hidden in some nearby woods, and the party catches sight of goblins training giant centipedes on the way back to Oleg's.
Hexcrawl 03 - Abandoned Wain, Blood Altar, Moon Radishes, and a Spider's Nest

After resolving the trouble between the local fey and the village of Eldergrove, the party gets back to proper exploration! We try out all kinds of hexcrawl watch action mechanics! The group heads north to reclaim an abandoned wain (open-top wagon) mentioned by Bags Dagnulfsson in the Feywild, south again to discover a bloody altar being used by some kind of cult, then further south to gather moon radishes for Svetlana despite the objections of a few Sootscale Kobolds, then back to Oleg's Trading Post by way of the hunting grounds of a vicious giant trapdoor spider, where they find a clue to a possible treasure hoard.
Hexcrawl 02 - In the Night Garden of the Feywild

In Eldergrove, the party discovers that children have gone missing over the last several nights, presumed taken by local fey. Following a trail into the nearby woods, they find a fey crossing that transports them to a strange forest filled with bizarre beings such as Makka Pakka, Iggle Piggle, and the sentient Pinky Ponk airship. The children are there, but the fey are upset because the rare and wondrous Olly Bolly Dob Dob Flower has been stolen, and they won't give the children back until they get their flower returned. There's also the human bard Bags Dagnulfsson, who tells them of a wain that he and his adventuring group recently abandoned near the Delimbyr Route. The party must return to Eldergrove, find the missing flower, and appease the fey to resolve the situation without violence! Fans of the British children's show "In the Night Garden" are in for a special treat; Pip-Pip-Onk-Onk!
Hexcrawl 01 - The Heirs of Athalantar

We are introduced to Caradoc, Jhank, Bariq, Sir Parrik, and Artvirious, who make up our new level one heroes! At Oleg's Trading Post near the Greyflow River, the will of the wizard Narthindlar of the Nine Spells is read, giving gifts to our new adventurers and charging them with rebuilding an ancient kingdom! To deal with some bandit troubles, an ambush is staged and the small band of bandits is defeated. Various nearby opportunities for adventure are discussed, and player roles for the upcoming campaign are discussed. Heading northwest, the party discovers signs of a hidden wagon buried by the Lord's Alliance to conceal it from the Zhentarim, and it's full of treasure! Bariq discovers the joy of foraging for rare plants! Arbitrage sneaks its way back in, and the party then continues to the village of Eldergrove, which has been having some kind of trouble with the local fairies.
Wilderness Hexcrawl: Session Zero!

Looks like we may be headed towards having a fairy knight paladin, a lizardfolk ex-soldier ranger, a human or tabaxi spellslinger, a genasi druid or sorcerer, and a dwarf archaeologist fighter, who all knew a recently deceased wizard who's last will and testament brings them together to explore and tame the wilderness west of Secomber including parts of the Gray Vale, Southwood, High Moor, and Graypeak Mountains!

They face a whole slew of mind flayers firing lightning guns and a disintegration ray, an illithilich on a dracolich, and then face off against the elder brain and an iron tentacled colossus! Mouse gets stunned but recovers with a vengeance! Yngvar gets the nasty end of the disintegration ray! Galron casts a wish! Grimm is unhittable! S'arth Traados and his red dragon tangle with the undead illithilich on his dracolich! We bid farewell to Jared who's moving to Texas and to the Stormy Seas campaign!

With Balandor and Slarkrethel dead together, Grimm and the Hornraven brothers with their condescending genius crab Bess press on to fight the Elder Brain and its Mind Flayer minions! Things go badly but then the second Spawn of Slarkrethel turns the tables and victory appears to be within their grasp, but the Elder Brain escapes to the Astral Plane! The group explores the surrounding rooms and finds a surgery room and a large library full of preserved brains, so they decide to try their hand at brain transplants! Under Yngvar's knife, Grimm and Galron will never be the same!

Unfortunately, the barely-afloat ship is infested with a variety of spiders and some Lolth-worshipers! Grim learns to hate spider swarms, Galron blinks in and out of the ethereal with a pair of phase spiders, Yngvar tries to hold everyone together, and that's all before the elder giant octopus attack!

In all his vileness, Garrundar tells them to go kill his mist dragon rival Thalagyrt north of Port Llast, but the party instead makes a deal with Thalagyrt and brings him back to Garrundar's lair to take on the black dragon and his kobold army! Who will win? Who will get their face burned off by Garrundar's acid breath and have their corpse dragged back to a pickling pool?

After rescuing Galron from a hag's man-trap and meeting their creepy new fan in town, the crew sets sail for the wreck of the Sea Marshal to retrieve a huge statue of Valkur. However, a Hydroloth and its minions are already there, and anxious to retrieve it for their own Master. The Hydroloth steals Mouse's memories and makes his escape, and the statue is raised and loaded onto the Sea Ghost for shipment to Neverwinter. Before they leave the island, the crew decides to try to find out what's causing fish to die in a nearby cove, and end up in another battle with a completely different demon and the coven of hags trying to take over the Dreadwood.

Yngvar has to escape on his own while the rest of the party plans a major assault on the hive with the aid of Lords' Alliance forces and the Kingsfleet.

Stormy Seas 12 - The Battle of Berranzo!

The crew explores the abandoned Calishite mine complex of Berranzo and gets in a huge fight! It started with some cranium rats that Mouse tried to befriend but everyone else tried to kill. Then there were the rust monsters. Then Galron stumbled on a Grick Alpha; a mind flayer and its thralls came out to see what all the noise was about, and lots of people took falling damage from jumping into the pit mine or being unwillingly moved there by telekenisis! Mouse dove onto the mind flayer dagger-first, and Grimm got taken down twice by the grick alpha. Galron lightning bolted some baddies and also his brother, but luckily the sorcerer was carrying enough healing potions to get the healers back into play. Treasure including raw adamantine and other metal ingots and a few magical items was found. With Fiskrbak's problems solved (for now), the party heads back to Gundbarg to find and spy out the sahaugin lair.
Stormy Seas 11 - Fiskrbak, Nautiloid Crash, Neothelid Battle, and the Wreck of the Golden Crown

Heading to the western side of Gundarlun Island, the crew get into a messy fight with some rot trolls, then visit Fiskrbak and sample the local catoblepas cheese. When Yngvar fails to properly bless the crops, they go investigate the town's missing druid and her family at what turns out to be a crashed mind flayer starship containing a mostly dead githyanki raiding party and the enormous wormlike aberration they failed to destroy! They then explore the Wreck of the Golden Crown and battle sahuagin and an aquatic troll!

Stormy Seas 10 - The Sinister Secret of Gundbarg, part 2

The crew cleans out some smugglers from the sea caves and runs afoul of an oversized cave fisher! Mouse tries to lead an army of horses but they all get fireballed and once again his animal friends perish! Yngvar and Mouse both fall in battle but are saved by Galron's secret healing potion stash! Yngvar discovers that cave fisher blood is highly alcoholic and possibly his new favorite thing! After some lantern signaling and a short rest, the crew rows out to the pirates' boat to find cousin Sigur is both alive and a pirate captain, so Galron throws him overboard into shark-infested waters! A shipboard melee ensues with spells flying and many pirates and sahuagin being thrown into the drink! When the dust settles, the crew now has a second ship and tons of cargo to load on it, and Stor's haunted house is ready to be renovated!

Galron picks which room he wants to be his, Mouse shows off his "rogue skills" by smashing locks when they won't open for him, and Grimm slices and dices everything in his path. They take on snakes, ghosts, devils, a bodak, and a guy from Shake Shack!

In Gundbarg, the crew of the Grimm Prospects makes a deal to repair and upgrade the ship, meets with old friends and new contacts, and gets a full docket of possible quests! It seems everyone in Gundbarg has something they need the adventurers to do!

Stormy Seas 06 - Taking Down the Slavers in Luskan

The crew of the Grimm Prospects investigates a mysterious dead drow gunslinger on the street outside the Seven Sails Inn, then drops in on the Uthgardt Elk Tribe selling slaves to other drow and some Calishites! A battle ensues and Yngvar demonstrates how not to go through a Blade Barrier! The drow of House Tanor'Thal escape, the Elk Tribe loses their chief Zokan Thunderer and many of their warriors and shaman. The slaves are rescued and freed! A partial recipe for brassla is recovered, and an interview with Druette the Raven yields the spellbook of Nuldus of Turtorn and several indications that she's mixed up in the Kraken Society. This info gets reported back to "Zardoz Zord" and the crew prepares to return south to Neverwinter.

Thankful for the rescue of their iceberg, the Harpers hand out treasure and want to find the secret Luskan recipe for brassla! At Fishers Float, Mireene Driftman offers to cook breakfast but holds out on information, so the crew invades her basement and fights chuuls, cultists, a deep scion, and a red slaad! Yngvar learns to hate druids! The deep scion escapes but a cultist reveals that Slarkrethel the Kraken will rise and destroy everyone! Setting sail for Luskan, the crew witnesses the destructive power of the white dragon Iceclaws. In the City of Sails, Yngvar and Galron are invited by Frosttouch Wiskar Strom of the Church of Auril the Frostmaiden to particpate in the Last Storm rite with clerics of Umberlee, Talos, and Auril. The brothers help impress the crowd with their storm magic and Yngvar gets some clarification about Slarkrethel and Umberlee from Dread Wave of Fury Malakia. Grimm runs into fan favorite Zardoz Zord, whose flagship the Eyecatcher he noticed in the harbor, and they reminisce about Waterdeep, nimblewrights, and Zardoz's goal for Luskan to go legit and join the Lords' Alliance. At the Seven Sails Inn, Galron tries to learn the secret recipe for brassla, and in a conversation with the High Captains, Throa Taerl tells Grimm that the undead pirates that invaded Neverwinter report to the black dragon Garrundar the Vile on Pirates Skyhold. We start with an arbitrage marketplace report and some adventures Yngvar and Mouse had between sessions, then the party meets with a succubus named Rohini who wants revenge on whoever ordered the murder of the aboleth Kzixxaro, Mardred the Many who wants a spellbook of the Arcane Brotherhood, Harbormaster Len-Jes who wants her mercenaries from Mintarn, Gilby Crommor who wants Grimm to buy him more brass in Luskan, and Lord Neverember who wants the pirate attack investigated! But, when the Harpers offer a teleportation circle trip to "the Berg", our heroes find themselves on the iceberg of Oyaviggaton talking to ice toads and battling yetis, ice trolls, cultists, and a wizard and her wyvern to free some Harpers and get the magical Berg back in Harper hands!

As the crew come into Neverwinter they come under attack by Captain Callous and the Devil's Fin! Yngvar puts their ship in a trench but the captain and some bearded devils attack anyway, but part as friends after Galron's Charm Person finally works. In Neverwinter they catch up with old friends, at least one of whom is acting weirder than usual. They meet some Harpers, some ex-pirates, some druids, and an orcish fortune-teller. The following night, a ghost ship attacks and heads straight for the House of Knowledge. The crew catch up and discover an undead vs aboleth battle going on in the basement, with some "Oop! Oop!"-ing Kuo-toa joining in. Mouse ends up with a permanent madness type that nobody even notices isn't his normal personality...

After a recap of the between-session bluebooking and a discussion of financial options, the crew (minus Grimm, out on a date) decide to investigate an underground gladiator competition Manu has heard about, which turns out to be run by the Xanathar Thieves' Guild! Manu, Dax, and Baldr fight for their lives and (barely) defeat an Orog, a drow, and a bugbear! They nearly pull off a second victory against a swashbuckler, a bandit captain, and a minotaur, but they fall in battle and lose the bout, barely escaping with their lives while Evangeline watches in horror and yells encouragement from the bleachers! Back in Waterdeep after a rest-up, Evangeline investigates a rumor about the Black Viper spread by the Waterdeep Wazoo, and Dax accepts a mission from Force Grey to investigate a brass dragon in the harbor! Manu gets a mission from Joroth Brighthelm to kill a notorious criminal who's recruiting kenku for the Xanathar's Guild, but he and Evangeline let the miscreants escape!

We return Floon to Volo, Renaer's locket to him, and the stolen goods to the watchpost! Back at the Yawning Portal, Baldr sings us a drinking song about Episode 1! We explore Trollskull Manor, meet some urchins and some neighbors, and finally get a break from a long and terrible night!

Our party grows even more when we release all the mirror's captives! We steal the Black Opal Crown and find the Level 4 key! We head down to Level 5 and bid a sad farewell to our unicorn bunny Al Mirage! Amaranth accidentally gets naked! We solve more puzzles and battle the Sewn Sisters on Level 6! We stop right before what we think is going to be the boss battle!

We go up from level 5 to level 2, then level 1, then level 3, all in pursuit of juuuuust the right trickster gods to possess us! Jorgrim gets possessed by Moa the Jaculi and must be truthful and kind! Amaranth gets possessed by Papazotl the Eblis and bosses everyone around (no change there)! We solve a few more rooms, free a Gray Slaad from his prison and make him join the party, and then Lothar get possessed by Kubazon the Froghemoth and becomes "disturbingly moist."
