Written by and featuring Aija Siliņa. In large cities, we all feel keenly the kaleidoscopic heft of our fellow humans. Okay, there's plenty of pleasure in people watching; who can say they haven't entertained themselves wondering and worrying about those movements behind the curtains, behind the eyes? But then, sometimes we just want to withdraw from the vista of strangers. Our narrator reflects in this audio diary, with accompanying music by Duda Workshop. Artwork by Sam Vickers. By Holly Turpin. Featuring Abi Standish. Zahra can't sleep. The sandman has clocked off. Kip is not forthcoming. She's up for work tomorrow, too. The Singer Not The Song

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 17:19:29 +0000

Written by Jay Lawrance. Featuring Alice-Rose Murray and Jay Lawrance. If you live in a block of flats. most likely you are attuned to the grunts and flushing toilets and the booming televisions of other people’s lives. It passes without notice, a gurgle in the pipes. Then there is a new noise, one which is impossible for Jim and the other tenants to ignore… Artwork by Sam Vickers. In Jeans You're Mine

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 18:42:23 +0000

In Jeans You're Mine. Written and performed by Emily Benita. Have you ever seen an object, laying there on the ground, entirely without context? Looks ridiculous, in this space you were just trotting over. And what is your next thought? You wonder how that got there. You wonder about its history, its secrets, its travels. It’s probably better travelled than you, you worn-out workaday sap! In Jeans You’re Mine tells the story of a girl stopped dead in the street by an inanimate object... Artwork by Sam Vickers. Device Written by Myke Atkinson Featuring Myke Atkinson and Jay Lawrance This is a story about continuity announcers. The warm and affable voice, relaying facts, times, and titles. It’s a job - no, it’s an existence that you might wonder about. What face belongs to that voice, if any? What do they do when they are not being *that*? So anonymous are they, it’s almost as if they don’t exist... Artwork by Sam Vickers. A Young Man's Thoughts

Fri, 02 Sep 2016 00:00:00 +0000

A Young Man's Thoughts Featuring Martin Blackburn. Written by Jay Lawrance and Martin Blackburn. As our work finishes, we have time to just be; all that exhaustion seeps out through the bones. Some people call this relaxation. Martin sits alone in a takeaway. He doesn't call it that. Nowhere to hide in an empty restaurant with a bucket of chicken. He turns naturally to the littles pains and battles, ills and victories of his working life. The world he inhabited when he started his job has changed, dramatically… Artwork by Sam Vickers. High Crescent

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 00:00:00 +0000

High Crescent Written by Jay Lawrance and featuring Jay Lawrance and Abigail Standish. What would you do if someone you saw every day just suddenly blanked you? Ignored you? Went out of their way to get away from you? Now imagine the situation from the other angle. Could you sever the link? Could you just eliminate someone from your life, utterly? Would it be easy or would you worry about their feelings? Eoghan is looking forward to his morning conversation with Jen on the bus as usual; Jen has other ideas… Artwork by Sam Vickers.

Nuzzled Lovely At Mickey D's

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 00:00:00 +0000

Written by Myke Atkinson and featuring Myke Atkinson and V. McNaught. Proximity. We don't like it, as a rule, do we? The unwritten rules about personal space must be obeyed in any public spaces. And why not? Because it’s *hard enough*, waddling through commuter land or having your brain freezer-burned in the supermarket milk aisle, without some Herbert daring to brush your side, or touch your hand in reaching for the same pint of chocolate shake? We blanche. We frown. But what would you do if, apropos of nothing, someone just came and glommed you like a limpet, while you were reading this…Ivo has a faceful of fries when Mirna does just that… Artwork by Sam Vickers.

If You Want Me To I WIll

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 00:00:00 +0000

Written by and featuring Alice-Rose Murray. The city is a lonely place without money or a job. The shopfront signs that buzz with bargains, offers and deals you might dream of consuming in a better life. The artificial lights that drone and the conversations simmering in the cafes, people with more purpose than you may ever have, with no-one or no place to be awake for in the morning. It can breed jealousy and bitterness. Listen, as our narrator wanders around at dawn, a tour guide with sharpened teeth as she contemplates these exhausted streets and more terrible things... It Snows Metal On Venus

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 00:00:00 +0000

We all have those jokes, games, names and pieces of wordplay that are a kind of secret dialect between us and that other intimate person: a lover, a best friend. And to those around us, we might as well be speaking another language altogether. How many times have we said ‘you had to be there, really’ with a laugh of ever-decreasing conviction: ‘Oh, that’s one for me and Chris.’ These things form the backbone of intimacy. In this piece, our narrator and his lover share the hobby of eavesdropping on people’s conversations, and report them back diligently during pillow talk. At first, it’s a game that thrills…

The Creep

Fri, 27 May 2016 00:00:00 +0000

Train journeys, wouldn't you say they're a breeding ground for daydreams? You look around; it would be a faux pas to speak! You're in a social vacuum with only your own thoughts. Streams of new data enter your cognition. An interchange of people getting on/alighting - "Who's this chick? What's her deal? She looked at me! What does she want?" With this in mind, enter Hannah Smith, with a filthy mind and some time to kill on the Victoria Line.
