Synopsis:
Prometheus Radio Theatre, a group of experienced Baltimore-area Fan actors, writers and directors, is embarking on what we like to think is a bold, new path (then again, maybe we're just deranged!) We're bringing original, SF radio dramas to Fan audiences at area conventions, and we plan to offer said dramas via CD and streaming audio in the near future. Our current project is an episodic series, The Arbiter Chronicles, which author Steve Wilson describes as "a sort of Hornblower the Vampire Slayer in Space." "Arbiters" tells the tale of young midshipmen (and women) in a future Navy, when the human race has expanded off earth, and things ain't as bright and cheerful as some might expect.

Fri, 13 Jul 2012 14:47:07 +0000
We interrupt the presentation of Unfriendly Persuasion to bring you highlights from an exciting new project that Steve and Phil Giunta (Testing the Prisoner) are working on. ReDeus: Divine Tales is an anthology put together by Bob Greenberger, Aaron Rosenberg, Steve Savile and Paul Kupperberg. This is the first in a planned series of anthologies and novels which chronicle the return of the mythological gods -- all of them! -- to earth.
ReDeus: Divine Tales will be available from Crazy 8 Press the first week in August, and includes stories by: Dave Galanter, Allyn Gibson, Phil Giunta, Robert Greenberger, Paul Kupperberg, William Leisner, Scott Pearson, Aaron Rosenberg, Lawrence M. Schoen, Dayton Ward, and Steven H. Wilson. For more information, keep checking http://www.crazy8press.com/.
Included here are selections from Steve's story "Axel's Song" and Phil's story "There Be in Dreams No War."
This project has been such a mad rush that we didn't have time to get into the studio! This episode was recorded at a beach house with the built-in mic on Steve's MacBook Pro, so bear with some slightly sloppy audio. We wanted you to hear this as soon as possible!

The Little Red Hen... Yes... Seriously
Mon, 04 Jul 2011 22:41:54 +0000
Seriously? Yes, seriously. Steve recorded the 1918 version of the folktale "The Little Red Hen." The source says it's English, Wikipedia says it's Russian. For July 4th, we're calling it American. Steve found out that his kids had never heard this story about self-reliance, DIY and independence, and he thinks there's some kind of conspiracy afoot. So here it is, in hopes that no child in the podcasting community will miss out on this simple story about doing all the work yourself and reaping the benefits.
Happy Independence Day!
BTW, there are multiple formats of the story at Project Gutenberg.
Sun, 05 Jun 2011 23:07:01 +0000
This brief update is mostly to let listeners know that episodes are no longer being posted to the feed at http://prometheusradiotheatre.com/?feed=rss. That's exclusively our blog feed now. Podcasts will be on http://prometheus.rnn.libsynpro.com/rss.
I also mention the book Getting Things Done, by David Allen, which I recommend to anyone who's feeling a bit out of control of all the STUFF they want to accomplish.
Finally, there are coupons available on Smashwords so that you can buy Firebringer Press ebooks for the reduced price of $2.50. These are good through June 25th. We'll probably keep generating new ones, so check the Prometheus blog if you miss the date.

A note from the author:
Here we return to my North Carolina heritage. The story of the light at Maco Station has been told many times in the last century and a half. I first discovered it in one of my grandmother's books of ghost stories, An Illustrated Guide to Ghosts and Mysterious Occurences in the Old North State, by Nancy and Bruce Roberts. I love train stories, so it's always been one of my favorites, and Prometheus's rendition embroiders on it, adding some history and some melodrama along the way.
Sat, 30 Oct 2010 04:18:24 +0000

Fri, 04 Sep 2009 13:26:56 +0000
Some thoughts from listeners, plus some news about the upcoming shows from Prometheus. We're going to take a month hiatus while we prepare some new material.
Steve was a Parsec Award judge! Parsec Awards are being announced this weekend at Dragon*Con. Best of luck to all competitors!
And Renee is running a marathon to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She'd love it if some of our listeners helped out with this worthy cause.
Peace Lord of the Red Planet - Chapter Five
Sat, 29 Aug 2009 17:08:31 +0000
On the run from the authorities in Aspar, Shep discovers something new about himself. Then he discovers something about the Aspar's customs and his young ally Hylas that he didn't really want to know.
Okay, this is the chapter where a certain portion of the listenership is going to become uncomfortable and probably cry out, "Oh, no, he's going THERE!" It's organic and necessary to the story, and, if you know your warrior cultures of earth, historically supported. Again, no explicit language, but the subject matter is adult. Interested in your thoughts, but check all amateur psychology at the door. You don't want to be in my head. It's dark and scary and there are little mice...
The preview is for "The Good Parts" podcast, and does have both explicit language and subject matter.
Peace Lord of the Red Planet - Chapter Four
Fri, 21 Aug 2009 14:14:00 +0000
Condemned for treason, Shep awaits execution; but Hylas has a plan to save his new-found friend.

Peace Lord of the Red Planet - Chapter Two
Sat, 08 Aug 2009 00:23:59 +0000
Shep and Philip, out of the frying pan and into the fire, have been mysteriously snatched from the jaws of death in Virginia, and transported to a world at war. The Red Planet... is it Heaven? Are these people whose civilization is so advanced angels? Or are they merely human? Shep does what comes naturally, and catapults himself and his friend into the thick of an ages old war.
This chapter starts to get a bit more explicit, so be warned. I don't recall putting any foul language at all into this story, but the subject matter is adult. Have had one bit of feedback thus far, and am eager for more. Let me know what you think!
Peace Lord of the Red Planet - Chapter One
Fri, 31 Jul 2009 13:03:34 +0000
This novel puts a new spin on the idea of the earthman who is suddenly torn from his home and cast into a fantastic world of warfare and (apparent) magic. Our hero is not a seasoned veteran of war who happens to outclass all the members of an alien warrior culture; rather, he's a man of peace whose bravery is beyond compare, but whose moral convictions will be tested on a ruthless world.
Shepherd Autrey is a doctor and member of the Society of Friends in America in 1864. On a mercy mission to the devastated Shenandoah Valley, he runs afoul of a Confederate press gang and is doomed to be hanged. Instead, he begins an extraordinary adventure.
The first several chapters of this novel will be run on this cast in the coming weeks. We're anxious to hear your feedback on the story. In the Fall, it will be released in eBook format by Firebringer Press, and on podiobooks.com.
Special thanks to Eli Senter, Cindy Woods and Sandy Zier-Teitler for editorial services!

At Christmas time, we think a lot about traditions of the past, and about those who came before us. The group of creative people who put together a fanzine called Contact back in the 1970s are some of the forbears of today's Prometheus Radio Theatre. Many of those writers and artists directly contributed to our being where we are today.
It seems appropriate then, that we take some time right now to feature a selection from A Contact Christmas, published in 1979. Steve reads "A Gift of Gold," by Beverly J. Volker and Nancy J. Kippax.
